Always wanted to get a real good collection of songs from him and his orchestra from back in the day. What's the best in your opinion? I love that sound man. It's beautiful. Sure wish we had more of that sound today. People sure had class and style back then, in boat loads IMO.

The Glenn Miller sTory staring Jimmy Stewart was just on the other night on TMC I think, I really enjoyed watching it again, it's great to see the ideas and people behind the writing of those songs.

I have a double album of his that I love called The popular Recordings 1938-1942. It has 3 discs, 60 songs, including favorites like:

Moonlight serenade
And the Angels sing
Little Brown Jug
In the Mood ( one of my all time favorites)
Star Dust
Tuxedo Junction
A String of Pearls
Moonlight becomes you

And many more..................

Takes me back to when I was a teen and my step dad played in a band and they gave concerts in the park, mostly all Big Band music, which I still love today.

Yeah Zayit... I saw that flick too with Jimmy Stewart, and that got me to thinking about it matter of fact. Funny thing I thought about during the movie is that Jimmy Stewart served in the Air Corp, and how funny it was that he was playing Glen Miller playing in front of the Air Corp in England. I wonder if he got a chance to see Glen's orchestra play when he was there, and how that might have influenced him into taking the part.

BTW.... Thanks for the info on the CD. I'm going to look it up next time I'm at the store.

Cool! :)

I found this article that sets some things straight about what was portrayed ( the TMC host explained it as romantically acurate, but loosley realistic), and about just how he did die.

I know one thing, many were and still are today soothed by the sounds of his arrangments, they are timeless I think. :)

Thanks for all the info, and that site as well. WOW, that was crazy. I never really heard that before about him having cancer and all, and passing away in a hospital. But regardless, those were the days IMO, and Glen and his music was such a big part of all that.

Such Style, such class, and such heroics. The world will never be the same because of that generation.

Tis true.

And I too was surprised on that, but then again you can't trust hollywood and that wouldn't have made nearly as great a romantic story as the lost plane one.

Surprised there aren't any ( or many) other fans out there?

Do you have any local places, parks, bandstads, etc that you can take in some of this music live, in the summer perhaps? I have been blessed just about everywhere I have lived to have this joy for free nearby.

I've enjoyed it outdoors and sometimes under the stars at such places as by a lake, next to a mill complete with water wheel, on the boardwalk, by a river, and even in the parking lot of a town pool.

I guess there are still some fans out there yet, but I fear many are dying off. :(

This is the one I have, through a record club, seems Amazon has it used. They even have some of the tracks from each disc to listen too.

Glenn Miller ( real first name Elton) :) Disc Set at Amazon.

I love Benny Goodman too, Ella Fitzgerald, and of course ol Satchmo, Louie! :)

Great music!

I once had the great priviledge of seeing Lous Armstong in concert. I was quite young, but can remember it well.

My dad got me hooked on Glenn Miller, and here is one of his bests!

If the article is true, then why were there witnesses who claim they saw the plane go down? Why was Miller listed on the passenger manifest of the plane? Why was there no body? Why is there no record of him dying in any hospital? Why was his band waiting for him in Paris? Why hasn't anyone ever come forward to corroborate this story?

The article is bogus. While many of the details of Miller's death are unclear, the one thing that is indisputable is that he did die in a plane crash on his way to Paris.
