I've been watching testimonies of gifts of the Spirit lately. Some of the testimonies I've watched are about people sharing their personal experience with the gift/word of knowledge, either as the person with the gift or as the one who receives a word of knowledge from someone else.

My understanding of the word of knowledge is that the Holy Spirit reveals to person A private and possibly sensitive information about person B, so that person A can approach person B and give them an encouraging message related to the information just revealed. Usually person B reacts with shock because there was no way person A could've known that.

I would like to know if there are people here who have personal experience with this gift. Have you ever exercised the gift of knowledge? Have you ever been at the receiving end of this gift?

Many times. There are some who believe that a word of wisdom will always accompany a word of knowledge. But I haven't seen that in Scripture. Sometimes it is pretty surprising when God reveals "that." Since we know the word of knowledge is true/accurate, I've wondered if it prepares us for receiving the word of wisdom if it follows.

In regards to sensitive info, believe we need to asks God if it's to be spoken. Everything God does has a purpose and asks Him for it. Sometimes it's to be prayed about only. If it's to be spoken, then asks Him how.

Sometimes there is criticism when someone receives several words. But considering words of knowledge and wisdom are "a word" or a portion, then several gives a more comprehensive view.

Nice. Would you kindly share a few anecdotes? If it's not too private, of course.
I have tons!

I get Words of Knowledge mostly through Dreams and Visions.

One time I had a dream with a guy I knew. He came into my office and as he was going to leave I asked him about his girlfriend. He said they had broken up a few weeks before. I commented about the dream. I told him about what I saw and heard. His eyes were wide open while he listened. I asked him if he was ok. He said everything I told him was exactly what he and his girlfriend talked about when they broke up. He realized they made a mistake. I found out they got back together, married and have children.

On another occasion I sent a text message to someone saying, "I miss listening to you practicing your worship music". He used to live next to my office and he used to practice worship while I worked, but he eventually moved. He texted back saying, this was the day he started playing after a long break. I wasn't even working in the same office anymore.

Another time I was at a class prophetic and we were asking for Words of Knowledge for someone in front of us. I heard, "Mary, Mary". I figured I was thinking about a Mary I knew. I told the woman I just heard, "Mary, Mary" and she started balling right there. I asked if she was ok. She said she was a woman she met a few days before and how she needed help and she was helping her get groceries and get her life back together.

Another time I was having an argument online with some people. A friend of mine sent me a text saying something along the lines to stop fighting battles that don't belong to me. She had no idea I was arguing with someone.

The majority of my Words of Knowledge are to warn, protect and help others. They can be scary and crude, but I've seen them bring life and lots of joy at the end.

Yes, one pastor showed more knoweldge of me than myself had in some areas or that i knew subconsciously but didn't realize until then, also told me things about my past life i didn't tell to anyone, and some words about my life with God and some things i could do. All biblical too if you are wondering.

In one instance he started telling me what i was thinking, i got a bit suprised and started panicking after some thoughts switching thoughts and he told me every one of them, until i thought on purpose of 'the secret place' and he stopped.

Among lots of other things and advice, he told me why i shouldn't judge certain person, the thing is, he told me why i shouln't judge this person and he told me his name!, and this was something i have done in my interior only, i didn't tell anyone this and also this had happened years before.

Now, i'm not nuts inventing stories! you wanted some real testimony, this stuff happened to me.

I have received or given words of knowledge many hundreds of times. They should be a normal part of spiritual life for all believers.

We are God's beloved children, why would our Father not speak to us?

In my experience, church going Christians are the hardest to teach listening to God. They are so used to suckling at the tit of their pastor that they don't know how to feed themselves directly.

In contrast, new believers seem to learn listening naturally, they've got no church hang-ups getting in the way.

So, I just had another example of this happening to me a few minutes ago. I called up a spiritual mentor & teacher of ours because of something that happened yesterday. They had zero idea what that was and would have no reason to even suspect it. We asked them for prayer and didn't tell them anything at all. The prophetic word (word of knowledge) called out exactly the situation we are currently in. Then it also give us direction (word of wisdom) on how to handle that situation moving forward along with encouragement and edification (gift of prophecy) to help us act on it. I have received many works like this in my life, I know what is possible, yet, this one had me tearing up. There is just something immeasurably powerful about knowing first hand the goodness of God and that He really is there, He cares, and He is talking directly to you.

And yet cessationists remain adamant that our Heavenly Father stopped speaking to his children nearly 2000 years ago!

What sort of father would refuse to ever speak to his own children?

Bingo! But they have all sorts of scriptural gymnastics they do to explain that away.

Yeah previously would be aggravated towards them. Since they've chosen to be ignorant (I Cor 12:1 which I was at one time), my time and effort is better spent learning more myself and trying to help others. Thankfully, CF has these forums with the posting criteria that makes that possible.
