I was wondering if anyone had ideas for a present i can make for my 17 year old friend on her birthday? Last year I was very busy with coursework so I only gave her a couple of books- we usually give each other something special so I'd like to make it up to her this year. I was thinking of possibly making her a scrapbook but I don't have all that many photos of us so any other ideas would be much appreciated!

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has your friend given any clues as to what she would like for her birthday? We tend to ask friends and family what they would like to have, but maybe that is us just being different, but we don't go much on surprises.
What about framing a photo? Does the scrapbook have to contain only pictures of the two of you? What about a pic of a favourite pet or pics of your group of friends?
Just some idea to think about. When is her birthday ? How much time have you got to plan and make something?

i think a scrapbook is a nice idea -- use the photos you have (copies, so you still have them)...you can also create some blank pages (do the papers, etc you want to use, but leave the mats empty) so your friend can add more photos
