• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a huge problem with procrastination. I moved into a new apt this past July, I haven't even unpacked half of my boxes. I haven't been doing my dishes or keeping my place clean. Partly due to my bipolar I think. I procrastinate so badly. And partly due to a chronic back pain, but I never should've let it go so long or get so bad.

Now my complex will kick me out if I don't have it taken care of by Tuesday. Please pray for me.

I am also concerned that they could call CPS on me.

Pats, I understand that this can be a difficult challenge to face. I also understand that it is difficult to ask a friend or family member to help out. If that's something that you could do, It might help to have the company to keep you motivated.

When I find that my environment is in a state of chaos, I usually just pick a spot and start working. It seems much easier for me to move on to another area when I can step back and see that I've made progress.

After you've put in some hard work, you can always treat yourself to a hot bubble bath to aleviate the aches and tension.

It's certainly not impossible for you to regain some level of order, but you may have to go through a little pain in order to get there.

Good luck and remember that your friends here are behind you.

When I was first diagnosed I did that. I wanted to do sooooooo many things, that I could not focus on any one thing at all! I'd go to do something, and then get distracted by other thoughts right away.

Thank God I'm not having that problem tonight. I think my problem has been trying to stay happy by pretending my other responsabilities and problems don't exist.

My b/p sometimes compounds things in my life. Especially since finding out my daughter was molested. I've changed and allowed problems into my life, like this apt, that are just TOTALLY out of character for me.

This is not like me to have this problem, but my kids are great. They forgive me for not staying on top of my self of them and they're helping me fix it. It's a family project for the holiday weekend. I'm just resting my back now, and it's so nice to read all of your warm thoughts and non judgemental comments.

It was so hard to recieve the comments from my apt complex manager today. But I'm glad they brought to my attention how out of hand I'd allowed things to become. I can no longer turn a blind eye.

I think many b/p suffers (am many others) can relate to this procrastination/motivation 'problem'.

With me it seems when I have a mania episode, I start so many projects and make so many commitments that when I 'come down' or 'crash'...I can not continue in many things that I started. This is very frustrating when I rapid cycle (used to , not so much lately)
Many times I find that my memory causes things not to get done. Example...doing laundry and forgetting it in the washer, only to find out days later that the clothes are a bit 'moldy'. Some days I can laugh this off...but most times I just get upset with myself. This memory lasp is slowly (and I do mean slowly) getting better.

You are not alone Pats. Thanks for sharing!

Pats, Do not waste your energy on I should have or I shouldn't have's

Everyone, bp or not has things like this. It sounds to me like you have had some major things going on. So accept that life has been a little crazy and you needed some time to cope and adjust. Moving alone is a major life stressor, I cannot even imagine coping with finding out your daughter was molested. Give yourself some grace, and continue to make house cleaning a family project, even after today. Your apt manager will see the progress. And above all, know that God judges you through the blood of His son-you are approved and loved no matter what your apt looks like!!!! I am most thankful for that because my house is a disaster-10 years of severe depression has left me quite a hole to dig out of, and like evryone else, it is always easier to do something else, put off, procrastinate, etc.

I wish I could be there to stand beside you and help you clean, but I am standing beside you and your family in prayer. May you experience the truth of God's strength being made perfect in your weakness.

I know exactly what you mean. I think we bp's do procastinate a lot. I have found I just have to force myself to do things. When I know something needs to be done I statr in first thing in the morning. I too have back problems and have to do a little at a time. My back gets to hurting, I sit down, but I don't get too comfortable. I sit just long enough to give my back a break and start in again. I have to remember to keep my priorities right. It takes time to retrain your way of thinking and changing habits....God Bless You....Rush

I totally understand what you are going through. I don't know how others keep it together but for me, I have to have a written schedule. During the winter, and I'm in the pits, it keeps me going and doing what I need to do. I tick off each thing as I get it done. Being able to tick something off gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. Because at that time, I have to work so hard to be motivated.

In the spring, when I'm hypomanic, it keeps me from going off the deep end and starting other projects that I know I'll lose interest in rather rapidly. At that time, in order to tick off an item on my schedule, I really have to work hard to focus and get it done. But again, I get to feel that sense of accomplishment because I did it.

I'll be praying for you that you are able to get things done that you need to have done. And when you finish. Reward yourself with a long hot bubble bath if you can. Your back will thank you.

List 10 things you want to achieve every day and check them off. Keep the list visible and doable.

Make many of them simple - get up before 8:00am, take your pills at the right times, take a shower, go for a short walk, etc.

Try to complete different tasks by certain times and reward yourself - example: for every 3 items accomplished you get a 45 minute rest.

Break washing the dishes up into 15/20 minute sessions then stop and reward yourself. Accept minor setbacks, but small victories creates success.

You guys are a wonderful bunch. I've been to this forum of CF before, but I never realized how great everybody down here is.

Thanks everyone for your support and ideas. They're great.

Things are coming along pretty well. I think it is definately "good enough" that I should not have to "loose my apt." However, they were some what concerned about my having too many cardboard boxes, also, and I still have some unpacking to do in my room.

But the progress that has been made has made me feel great! Although, my back is making me want to die! I will be feeling this for a while, but if I can keep up with some of the things I've put into motion this weekend, it will pay off.
