In the Bible Satan the Devil is often referred to as a 'dragon' or 'serpent.' This goes back to the Garden of Eden when Satan took the form of a serpent to deceive Eve, then Adam, into eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Devil told Adam and Eve they would, 'become like God.' What really happened was they lost their innocence and realized they had disobeyed God. They were naked and ashamed.
Whenever a snake is referred to as a 'serpent', that means it is not the reptilian animal snake but a symbol of one used to represent evil, lies, poison, destruction, confusion and death.
'Dragons,' have changed in appearance and form, power, strength, and a in modern days thought of as 'misunderstood', even good, as heroes who help out human beings needing a powerful, magical friend. i used to like dragons and be into fantasy stuff. I liked the battle between good and evil, this war raged within my own heart and soul. I wanted to follow God and obey him. But my love of fantasy sword and sorcery got in the way. I had to give up dragons. I hate violence, a lot of those movies, books, and games have too much violence in them. I knew the magic in them was wrong too. I am no longer into such things, I am into God Yahweh/Elohim, and His son Jesus Christ.
Now, I want to get rid of those evil dragons and serpents who whisper sinful temptation into the ears of people struggling to find the right way in life, the narrow way.
In revelations there is the woman clothed with the sun, crowned with 12 stars with the moon under her feet, who is with child, about to give birth, and the dragon with seven heads trying to eat her baby as soon as he is born.
It says the dragon is the Devil Satan, and he starts the war in heaven He rebels against God, and the archangel Michael and the good angels obeying God fight back against Satan and the angels who chose to follow Satan. The dragon and one third of the angels who followed him, were cast out of heaven and down to the earth, where Satan has great wrath against human beings, knowing he has a short time.
There are various animals that inspired the myth of dragons. Dinosaurs, large snakes, crocodiles/alligators, lizards, sharks, bats, vultures, turtles and tortoises.
Jesus called the pharisees, a 'brood of vipers, and white-washed tombs.' He did not have pleasant words for the religious leaders of His day, referring to them as 'snakes'
He reminded them of the Old Testament prophets that were murdered by Israelites.
The hypocrites in the Christian church are modern day 'serpents'. We must get rid of them, drive them out.
Getting rid of serpents in our faith is something everyone must do. First we must make sure we are in God's good graces, that we keep a constant relationship with the Lord Christ.
Pray constantly. A lot of people are not serpents themselves but they are trapped within the coils of a serpent. "Serpents' and 'dragons' are not real people or human beings they are demons, evil spirits following Satan.
On St. Patrick's Day we celebrate St. Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland by 'getting rid of the snakes/serpents.' The 'serpents' were the druids, evil idol worshipping pagan priests, wizards, warlocks, sorcerers, witches, magic-users. etc. St. Patrick may have come from the Catholic Church, but he did a lot of good things. The Catholic church became corrupt through greed, power and politics. They had a few popes who were wicked selfish narcisistic men. They thought they could do whatever they wanted because they were pope. Instead of being God's representive on earth, they acted like they were God.
There have been many arrogant selfish people who forgot how to love that had been devoured by serpents.
Love is so important, we all need God's love. Lucifer became cold and refused God's love.
Such love requires humbleness, obedience, kindness, mercy, forgiveness. Sometimes I wonder if the Lord could have forgiven Lucifer, perhaps he refused to repent, refused and turned away from God. Perhaps God did offer Lucifer another chance, he did offer to forgive the Devil, but Satan refused. Now it is too late.
