  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Getting involved at Church?

How many of you really participate a lot in your Church? I really dont know what to do to participate in Church, as I am not really tied down to one parish, as my family typically goes to multiple parishes, whatever time is convenient on a particular morning. I am also sort of scared of trying to get involved because of experiences in the past, and I dont know what to expect. I really dont like the whole feel of church youth groups, its hard to describe why. If I tried to explain all the things which are keeping me from living a real open and otward life for God, you probably wouldnt understand. My whole life situation is just really confusing. Anyways, there are a whole lot of things which I think are really hurting my ability to become an open christian. I cant stand having to keep my convictions private- nobody really knows who I am. Any advice?

I've been an altar server for over 9 years, almost 10. I am a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Society, and I am basically in charge of preparing for every 'reception' they have.
I help with Christmas baskets every year. Packing them, delivering them.

I help out at the parish offices with making copies of things for bake sales and such. Occasionally I'll do some "tech support" on their computer down there. ;)
I help decorate the church for Christmas.

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Well, I can remeber being an altar boy for a little bit, but those arent the nicest memories, because all I can remeber was messing up in front of everybody.
Practice makes perfect. :)

I remember making mistakes until I was about 12... small ones, but they were enough to bother me. No one notices or care. It's not like they'll kick you out or anything. :)

Youth group did little for my spiritual formation as well. What you need is something more mature, like YAM (Young Adult Ministry). Also, don't dismiss the possibility that you are also called to set the example in your youth group.

May the Lord give you His peace!

It's good to see you're thinking about that at your age..I'm 22 and I haven't done anything involved like that. I'm considering being a eucharistic minister (EME), but the last time signups came I chickened out on it...well more like.. I was very heavily "spiritually" attacked and it discouraged me from going into it.
