  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, according to my test results yesterday, I have it. I've got to meet next Thur. with a dietitian (sp?) and learn how to use a Glucometer and such. Until then they didn't really say what to do so I'm at a loss. She said to eat small meals and don't drink more than 8 oz. of milk at the time. She didn't say anything about sweets and carbs. I really don't know how I feel at this point. A little overwhelmed I suppose. :sigh:

I have it too.

Take a water bottle with you everywhere. Keep snacks like raisins, crackers etc in your purse. If you begin to feel off, find a place to sit, eat some and drink plenty of water until the feeling passes.

My doctor is being a dork. Even if they tests say I have it, he's holding off until May 19th when I'm farther along to let me get a monitar etc

Stay away from foods high in sugar, like soda, a high makes you feel just as bad as a low. If you really want something sweet, cut your normal portion in half and eat it after a full meal.

Complex carbs and protein are good, rice, pasta, whoe grain bread, cereal, etc

Now that I know what's wrong and how to keep it under control for the most part, I feel better about it. It'll be okay, most women with this clear up the day after the baby's born.

I think I'm more upset right now at my DH. He's been so good with this baby, making sure I'm OK and most of the time being really considerate. He called this morning to see if I had heard anything and at the time I had not. So after I heard, I called him at work and told him. He was busy and couldn't talk. He'd call right back. It was probably about 2 hours later before he called and while he was talking this time, (no mention of GD) someone else called him and he told me he'd call me right back. I still haven't heard from him. I kinda feel like that it's not that important to him or that I've let him down by having GD. I know it doesn't affect him like it does me, but it's his baby too and it's not like I've done anything to cause it. This is one of those times I could go off and cry somewhere.

:groupray: I had gd with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. I was able to control it with diet. The dietitian will be able to give you some good guidelines. It is good to eat many small meals rather than 3 large ones. Limit sugars and carbs - white rice is awful - you can only eat about a half a cup - what you have to look at is the carbohydrate number - for me I could have something like 23 g of carbs per meal. Don't drink fruit juice or sugary drinks - if you do drink a fruit juice - only about a half a cup probably. Graham crackers are a low sugar sweet that is good for dessert. I don't know if all people feel the same, but I felt tired and nauseated when my blood sugar was too high - too much and I had to take a nap, and when it was too low I felt irritated with everyone about everything and if it got lower I would get shaky. For me, I would get annoyed because sometimes I could not eat as much as I wanted and other times I was not hungry, but I had to eat something. But, I found if I followed the diet properly I felt much better and both my babies were healthy and I was too.
I pray that you both will be able to control your gd easily and that you have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. :prayer:

My sister in law had it. Isn't one of the concerns is that it makes for a larger baby sooner in the pregnancy? This is what she told me and her babies were all very large. I'm just wondering. I hate the glucola tests and I have one coming up. Gag me. Orange never tasted so disgusting. The cola one is worse.

One problem that can occur is since the mother does not process the sugar, too much sugar goes to the baby and the baby can get very large (mine did not). Another complication linked with GD is blood pressure problems, and if it is not controlled properly, kidney problems can occur also. It is something that can be very serious, which is why all pg women should be tested for it, and for most women it can be controlled easily with diet, while some will need insulin shots. There are also more serious complications that can occur - I worked with a woman who had some severe problems from it, so it is best to drink the stuff and take the test and find out if you have it so you can be treated properly for it.

The orange drink isn't that bad to me. There was too much of it, but the first half of the bottle tasted pretty good.

I think I'm learning what to eat because my levels were better last night and this morning. My problem is finding a variety to eat I suppose.

Does anyone know if it's OK to make your morning snack last longer? Like right now, I'm munching on peanuts but I didn't know if I could drag that out for an hour or so or if I needed to eat my serving all at once.

I am so tired of sticking myself already. It's not that bad but it's really no fun.

Any meal ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry I'm rambling.
