  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Seems like Bobby is interested in our planet. I was wondering how. Because this subject is like school, boring and drab and makes me fall asleep. He watches videos on YouTube that has to do with the earth...and I of course told him I just wanted to play video games. Why? Because it bores me.
Perhaps God is calling him into the field of geology?

He may be another Glenn Morton or Wayne Belcher, eh?

So are you asking "how" as in "how does one learn about our planet", or "how" as in "how is he interested in this 'boring' subject"?

You have no idea of boring until you actually read a geological survey.

True. They are boring even to a geologist. :)

But, that is how the training of a geologist starts. And it is why geology is easy, yet very hard.

Why does Bobby like the Earth? Good for him! It's an enormous subject, and incredibly interesting. If he has an interest in science for the sake of curiosity alone, then he'll make a fantastic scientist

Because it bores me.
For me reading a rock and the story it has to tell is as interesting as any book that I have ever read. Just to think that once this earth was a ball of fire and later on it was a snowball. Then the moon bounced off of the earth & broke up it's crust that began mountains, earthquakes and all sorts of stuff. The moon holds the earth at a tilt so we have seasons. All of that interests me because now I know why there is snow on my car in the morning or why it rains or why it gets so hot in the summer. If a tornado comes though town and tears down a lot of trees then I know that the warm air of summer just crashed with the cold air of winter and that is what caused the weather to be that way. So if you find it boring, then maybe you just do not wonder why things are the way they are. Sometimes it is good to wonder why. If someone is sick and we wonder why, then maybe we will find the cause and a cure. Maybe our quality of life can be just a little bit better.

What exactly is your question?

I, and the other geologists on the forum, would be more than happy to answer any questions that you or Bobby might have.

Could you tell me where I can find enough gold so I can retire in comfort?
Lol, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe that the largest deposits of gold that remain largely unexploited are in South Africa and Siberia/Eastern Russia. Other than that, look for quartz veins.
