But-- but-- your church's teaching (and the Word) tell us that God created ALL thingsSource: Catechism of the Catholic Church - IntraText
The Church teaching that God created all things through Logos is not presented as contradictory to God using secondary causes such as His other creations, which would include evolution.

Evolution does not fit into a literal six day creation which is at the very heart of our belief in God and I have no reason not to believe that all creation is "held together by the Word of His power"How is God creating through one means over another contradictory to God creating? You have made an a priori assumption that evolution is not guided and controlled by God, if we take this assumption to what I believe is its ultimate conclusion you do not believe that God sustains the universe.
The process of the Flood left the aftermath that is said to support evolution.
Belief in evolution is the aftermath of the fallen generation that caused the Flood in the first place.
I believe in reality. I dont even contemplate hypotheticalsDo you believe that the genetics of living things is as it would if all the creatures not on the ark drowned to death a few thousand years ago?

The Church's interpretation of scripture in regard to doctrine cannot be wrong, because the Church is infallible by the grace of God in regard to doctrines of faith and morals. If you were taught from an attitude of relativism or doubt towards the teachings of the Church, you were taught wrongly. The Church teaches that God created all things through his Logos, which means reason, not that God created species through processes of evolution.

All living things did not die. Many water born would have survived.Looks to me like you believe in hiding from reality. I didn't ask you a hypothetical, I asked you whether you thought that the Flood story matches reality or not, at least in terms of the genetic implications of it being true.
progmonk said:Well if your salvation is decided on whether or not the universe was created in six days that's none of my business however this is not what the Bible says our faith should be in, my faith is in the death and resurrection of Christ and for your information I also believe that all creation is held together by the Word of His power.
Do you believe the Bible is The inspired, authoritative word of God?

Yes, we did learn about how various people interpreted scripture, because we recognized that we are just humans, and our interpretation may be wrong - thus, our discussion of various interpretations gives the most honor to God's word, by keeping God's word above any particular interpretation.
So in other words, your kind o church preaches only your own interpretation, keeping people ignorant about other interpretations, and setting up your own human interpretation as being on par with the word of God itself.
Thanks for providing an example to go with my earlier statement.

progmonk said:The Bible makes no claims of being authoritative. It does make claims of being God breathed/inspired (or at least one part claims other parts are) so let's look at what this theologically means. From Genesis 2 we see that Man is "God breathed", a nephesh, an animal (Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon) so one has to ask if we believe that the Bible is this purely God given, dictated thing then are we also under the same sort of situation, are the other animals also totally controlled by God? Do you believe this?
I'm pretty positive most if not all of my Pastors are creationists and I go to a Baptist Church just as you do...
