didnt adam and eve eat from the tree? the didnt die tho....did he mean spiritually?What did God mean?

Yes, spiritual death was the immediate result - rupture of the previous unhindered relationship between God and human beings.

But the fall and subsequent curse also set in motion the processes which ultimately lead to physical death - Adam and Eve did die eventually.

So would they have lived forever if they hadn't eaten the fruit? Jesus didn't sin, yet he got older, so would they not have gotten older and died?

Getting older does not necessarily equate with death . .

It is believed that death would not have entered the world . .

They met a spiritual death that seperated them from God.
Also after sin entered the world death became a reality for the world.
IMHO I think Adam and Eve would have lived forever, but thats my thoughts.

Backward in time

"And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil." Gen 2:9

Over here we know of 2 noteworthy trees in the garden. For the second tree, it can be more accurately translated "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” “The” before the word “knowledge” signifies that the tree could not provide any and every kind of knowledge, but only a certain sad knowledge of “evil” in contrast with “good.”

"And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. " Gen 3:22-24

All this happened after they sinned. It shows that the tree of life sustained them for all eternity. Before they sinned, their immortality was conditional. IOW, Adam and Eve had conditional immortality before the fall.
And after they sinned, they were barred access to the tree of life. This means they were subjected to death. They were now subjected to unconditional mortality.

And to the text you quoted,
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. " Gen 2:17

So as they ate it, on the same day, divine pronouncement came upon them that now they had unconditional mortality. And this result also meant that they couldn't have face to face communion with God. So they lost much.
Note that Satan tempted Eve on this fact. Satan said that she wouldn't die if she ate it. And yes Satan was right in meaning that Eve did not immediately die. And Eve finding out that she didn't die immediately, passed on the fruit to Adam. But God didn't mean it that way. The consequences were greater than death itself as they had lost eternity with God.

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city" Rev 22:14

Finally, we can be assured to have access to the tree of life when Christ comes again.

Those two trees represent the two choices man has for living now, and in our next pilgrimage which will never end. The Tree of Life is to know God personally in a personal relationship spending time with Him. The other tree is man doing it his way. satan doesn't realy care how much we know about God, and he is a good teacher. he does everything he can to encourage us to pursue this course because He knows that it keeps us from spending time with God. That's why we have so many books about God, he loves them, because they keep us out of The Bible.

God Has given us the means whereby we can know Him it's all written in The Bible for us, and satan knows that. Here are a few of them.

The bottom line here is that if we do it God's way we will know more about Him than we ever will doing it our way. His way we will be just like Christ. Our way we will be just like satan.
