It is true. People are born into families with generations of sin and demonic strongholds that are hidden.

Some are openly manifested in child abuse, marital abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction, self-esteem issues, poverty, sexual promiscuity, idleness, murder, etc, etc, etc!

They most certainly do. many believers have no idea that there is such a thing until they reach a point in the sanctification process where they have the desire for more and more of God, and there seems to be a block there.

Many people who go through the steps to freedom must go through the exploration of generational problems which could be the source of their difficulty.

I believe that all of what you described as a generational curse, Paul calls a work of the flesh.

Let me clarify - there can be some things that are learned through experience from family - but none of them are beyond a work of the flesh. How do we get past a work of the flesh?

I think that may help..not sure..I could be wrong.but didnt Jesus do all that stuff ont he cross..sin healing etc..took it for all time? done deal..lol

I am not sure how I feel about the curses, I know that certain families struggle with certain types of sin in greater measure than other families. for example Alcoholism or abuse issues or covetousness and greed, codependence. I think for the most part we are programmed by our earliest experiences and it is easier to fall into certain areas of sin. The word calls it the sin that so easily besets us

Hbr 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

As christians we are freed from the power of sin in our lives by Christs death for us on the Cross, but we have to chose to walk free of sin and when we do stumble we must confess and get on the correct path knowing the provision of God for this in 1 John 1:9. For some it can be very discouraging to fall into the same trap over and over again and it is at this point that I believe prayer for deliverance if you want to call it that can help us gain the victory over these besetting sins. So can good Christian counselling and support from brothers and sisters in a healthy christian community. I am not sure if I agree that it is an actual spirit that is doing it though at least in most cases.

Yes he did, but do we immediately assimilate that in our walk as soon as we accept Him as Saviour? NO! No one ihas it altogether at the point of regeneration! It comes with sanctification--things come up and we must deal with them as they do.

I have a man in my family who is a pastor and when he was in seminary he found that he had a real "father wound"--a curse from his father's life and side of the family--alcoholism and abuse that was affecting him spiritually and impeding his freedom in Christ. He took some time and renounced that spiritual hold and actually created a beautiful teaching for men with father wounds.

It has given him a theme to his ministry that is so beneficial to the Body of Christ. So many other hurting men with father wounds have been brought to freedom victory in that area because of that realization of generational problems.
