Gangs and Religions

Just a thought:

Is the main difference between religions and gangs in the World the concept that religions stem from a supernatural being and gangs are conceived by a human?

I will elaborate as this thread grows, ld like other people's views in this.

I don't know why you chose gangs but to me it's more like another club that people join because they have a common interest. In this case God or Jesus.

well, gangs seek out rival gangs and to take over their turf and power and so forth.

The major religions of the World seem to want to take over rival religion's turf and power and so forth.

Gangs duck and weave around the law to get their way. So do religions.

No. You can dream up some superficial similarities between any two types of organisation.

More like a family than a gang or a club.

We've actually been adopted into God's family. I'm a joint heir with Christ. Jesus is God's Son by right. I'm God's son by adoption.

I know there are disfunctional families, but there are close knit loving families too. Sometimes we act like distant cousins rather than brothers and sisters, but there's no getting away from the fact that if we're close to God then ours is a loving family par excelence.

Religion is religion. If you really wanted to pick tiny similarities you could call it a gang, a club, a political group, a country, a business, and the list goes on.

Well, you hit the nail on the proverbial head, didn't you?

Both of your definitions work.
Just look at Judaic killing (ala the "old testament"), the Crusades, extremist Islam, the Inquisition, the violence surrounding the Nicene Creed vote, the various wars between pagans (witness Caesar vs the druids and his killing/smear campaign)
Gangs...religion...violence...
..gangs....religion...territorial wars...
...gangs...religion...."Im right, youre wrong"...
...gangs..religion.....willing to kill...willing to die to kill
Gangs "The king says we do it, we DO it"...religion "Deus Vult"
It goes on and on even today.

You might not see it
