  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm not sure. I know in dueteronomy that after the money is spent on yourself, God and others, you can spend the money on 'whatever your soul lusts after'. I still lean that it is sinful just because of poor stewardship. Would you buy a new HDTV that might work? This is a good analogy, I think. It's just as risky.

When we find that our lives are defined by trying to find what is sinful or not instead of building a relationship with the Master in which our lives are lived to please Him, we should seriously reconsider our reason for making a profession of faith. Nothing in the Bible suggests that gambling is a sin, but if you keep spending your money everyday hoping to hit it big rather than in carefully growing what you have been blessed with you are placing your trust in chance. You could just as well believe the world came iinto being by chance.

I don't know whether it is or not, but I know that I like it too much, so I don't. Also my church won't accept 10% tithes on my winnings, so that's that.

If you consider that God expects us to be good stwewards over what He gives us, I would have to ask whether you think gambling is a good use of the financies He has enabled you to receive?

What does gambling provide for you or your family? Does it edify? Does it bring people closer to the Lord? Does if further the spread of the Gospel?

Sometimes, more important than whether specific actions are sins is a consideration of why we are interested in or attracted to certain activities.

If it is done for quick riches, Proverbs warns that this attitude (whether used in gambling or business) will lead to poverty.

If one can afford to lose a bit of money and it is entertaining, it would probably be the equivalent of spending money on any other form of entertainment. However, God does require us to spend our lives and resources well and He will judge if we did so. It might be wise to carefully consider before using money (especially in significant amounts) on any form of entertainment. I once had a layover in the Las Vegas airport of one hour. I took $1 in quarters and played the slots for the whole time. I played the dollar and anything I won. At the end of that time, I was down to nothing. That was my limit.

I do believe there are many instances that are "questionable". Just about anything can become an idol or be deemed as sin. There are two sides to this discussion as with any other that is not scripturally clear. What does the bible say? Just because it is not in there, doesn't mean it's Christlike or The bible doesn't condemn it.

God gave us a Spirit to discern. Use it. Pray on it. You know what is Christlike and what is not. Stop pretending like you don't know. Don't allow your personal view into it. If scripture doesn't condemn it, it doesn't mean it condones it either. Use good spritual discernment on this. Sometimes there is no conclusion other than on an individual basis...from person to person. Each person has their struggles with many different things. I believe that if scripture is unclear and the Holy Spirit is conversing with your spirit that something is of God or not, then you should deal with it that way. But at the same time, personal conviction is just that, PERSONAL:thumbsup:

i hate gambling. it makes slaves out of those who do it. there was a time where my mother, father, grandmother and I were sharing rent on a house. the rent was about to be paid. She was going to pay it, so we gave her the money. Big mistake, on the way she decided to take a little detour and gamble a few rounds with her own money. she kept losing. then she got into the rent money. over 1500 dollars eventually dissappeared. she kept trying to win back what she was losing and eventually lost it all in her attempt. Gambling, whether sin or not isnt good because its never enough.

I'm the same way with drinking. I don't like any of it, but because it controlled me a long time ago. I've never seen anything good come out of drinking. Of course, my drinking and God bringing me out of it glorifies Him, but not the drinking. I don't think it holds well to anyone's testimony, even if it is in moderation. But that is my personal conviction. There isn't anything in scripture that says it's wrong to have a beer or whatever. But as I said before, becareful that the devil doesn't get a foothold.
