Gambleing sin or not?

Of course, that doesn't mean it won't happen - just that it may not always happen. In the case of gambling, it happens often enough to be a problem for some people, but this just means those people shouldn't gamble.

let's be honest and not so self-righteous-- everyone gambles in one way or another!

As long as you put your money into something with an element of risk, that's gambling.

And people dont just get addicted to slot machines and poker games, but buying stocks and shares, property, etc. too.

Actaully taking risk and gambling are quite different. Gambling is going in hoping to have a money/stuff payoff. Risk is going in with a other payoffs. Risk is okay, for christ himself risked much. Gambling on the other hand, in my opinion isn't, because there is no NEED to risk.

YOu're making an illogical comparison. People get hooked on crack and hooked on reading, both to a physical and mental detriment, but snorting crack is defintly wrong, but reading is not. Gambling is waisting your money, pure and simple, I don't see any way around that knowing you can take that dollar and make a real different in someone's life that needs it instead of giving it to a casino.

That statement is simply not true. I was a professional poker player, and in my lifetime I have made way more money off the game than lost.

And what about paying to watch movies? Is it a sin to watch movies becuase you are supporting an industry full of sin and deciet?

I have worked for many bosses that were heathens should I quit, becuase I am help making a heathen money?

So, is paying $100 per seat to see Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas better than gambling? In the end you've spent a lot of money for a couple hours of entertainment. You go home with only the memory of the show. Would you call someone who went to the show a sinner? What about people who spend $200 to spend 4 hours at a football game? They get a rush for a few hours and nothing more. As long as you have the money to spare and it stays entertainment, then I don't think it's sinful. Gaming is entertainment for a lot of responsible adults, and as such, I do not believe it to be a sin in itself.

I spend a lot of money golfing. I don't get anything in the end other than a tan and a good, entertaining (well, depending on how I shoot) time with my close friends. Am I sinner because I'm not getting anything in return for my money?

If it's a sin to spend money on entertainment without getting a substantial monetary or physical return, then there are a lot of events that will have to be taken out of Christians' schedules.

The point is that you're spending money for NO other reason then to make it with a low chance of that. The day I see no people homeless or starving is the day I play the lotto Until then I'll invest God's money which he has given me into people who need it instead of casinos

Dew a very LOW LOW LOW LOW percentage of people gamble for entertainment reasons. Its done for one reason only..quick money with no work involved..That's exactly what the bible warns us against in my opinon in the parrible of the talents.

A very low percentage of people drink beer for the taste.  Just because a majority of people abuse alchohol does not make drinking a beer with dinner a sin.  I know a lot of people who are perfectly capable of setting limits, staying within them, and having responsible fun for a couple hours in a casino.  I know far too many people cannot, but far too many people can't stop running up credit cards or eating Big Macs.  I don't think the act is a sin, but gluttony in the act is.

It's an avenue that investers utilize, to invest in the future of a company or companies.

If a company that you invest in does well, other people will invest in it; so the value of the stock that you have in said company will increase and your investment will be a good one (if you sell back your stock, before the value decreases below the value that you purchased it at).

Some win and some loss. If I invest in a business A to short sell it, and you invest in business A but you decide to go long. And now the stocks decide to take a dive, who loses money? Who gains money? Where does the money gained come from?

People invest there money into it,because it has a higher "chance" of return, but its not safe. Its gambleing.

Brokers get "heat" from their bosses when accounts stagnate, show no action, so they are told to call such clients and push whatever the brokerage house is overbought on. If the client makes money, that's nice, if the client loses money, too bad but the brokerage house still gets it's commission. They woul rather see action in an account -  "win or lose" -than no action at all, they don't make any commissions when there is no action.
