have them lie down and the trace around their body. Then they can draw on faces and clothes and whatever. Draw a welcome mat in front of the door. Trace around your shoes and make footprints up the sidewalk- decorate the footsteps. Draw a target and put points in the rings - throw stones or sticks to see how many points you get. Draw a line behind your heels, take the longest jump you possibly can, draw another line behind your heels - see who can jump the farthest.

Just some brainstorming.

  • different colored chalk
  • a pan with about an inch of water in it
  • a butter knife
  • some paper
  1. Take the butter knife and gently scrape some chalk into the pan of water. Scrape the chalk over the areas of the pan where you want the chalk to appear on your paper.
  2. The chalk will float on the surface of the water, but don't touch it or it'll sink to the bottom.
  3. Put a piece of paper on top of the water and let it sit there for a second.
  4. Pull the paper off the water and let it dry.
  5. When it's dry, shake off the excess chalk. Then, you can write a letter on your stationery and send it to a friend.

1. Setup: Draw the hopscotch area to resemble a calculator

2. The first player tosses her stone on the "1" key. She then hops on an equation equal to 1 (for example, she might jump to the following keys: =, 1, +, 0 or =, 3, -, 2). Players use 1-footed hops when landing on odd numbers and zeroes, and 2-footed hops for even numbers and symbols. A player's turn continues until she makes a mistake, such as stepping on a line or hopping on an incorrect equation. The winner is the first person to work through all the numbers to 9.

Setup: Mark out a 9-square tic-tac-toe grid and a toss line. Our grid was about 3 feet by 3 feet. Have each player use chalk to decorate 4 stones with his "team" color, and a 5th stone -- the "change" stone -- in a different color.

2. Players take turns tossing their stones, trying to get 3 in a row. If a player misses the board or lands in an occupied spot, he picks up his rock and his turn is over.

3. Once a game, each player can toss the change stone to try to take over an opponent's box. To be successful, he must land the stone on the targeted square. If he misses, he must pick up his stone, and his turn is over. The winner is the first player to get tic-tac-toe.

Hopscotch is alot of fun and you can make it educational. Instead of using numbers you can do days of the week, months, etc. You can also make it alot of fun by changing the shape- candy cane, snail, inch worm, etc.

Number tic-tac-toe is great too. One player is *odd* and the other *even*. And the best news is everyone can be a winner with the chance for alot of ties! I hope I explain right because it's kind of confusing without diagrams. The purpose is to get your line to total 15 (up, down or diagonally). And it's *your* line if you have two or more numbers in it regardless if the other player has a number included or not. Did I clearly explain that????

Bottle Cap Bump

Draw a three circles inside of each other. Label the outer most "1", "2" and finally "3" aka bull's eye. Each person takes turns flipping their bottle cap (quarter, rock, etc) into the circle or bumping another players out. Whatever "circle" they land on is the amount of points they get. The first person to reach 15 points wins.

Gong
Draw a pie. Label one GONG and the others with numbers. Using a pencil or pen as a spinner you hope to get to 20 points before hitting the gong three times. And yes... I highly recommend the spinner have at least one clearly designated point so there is no question where it's pointing to. Trust me- lol

Sidewalk Olympics
Draw five lines equally apart. Make the lines at least two feet apart and number them. The sky is the limit. They can jump, run and jump the farthest, tally up totals, etc.

Dotted Lines/Carrots and Pea
Draw a pattern of dots that are equal and line up into rows and columns. Each person takes one turn drawing a line from one dot to the next. When a person draws the fourth line that creates a box (or double box) they put their initials inside. The player with the most initials/boxes wins.

There was another game we would play that was really fun. Something like "traps and cheese". I would draw cheese wedges and mouse traps. There was a silly song everyone sang and you hoped to not land on the mouse trap when the song was over. Very similar to hot potato. When the girls get home I'll ask them if they remember it.
