Hey,

I was just wondering if any of you guys out there are in full-time ministry as a volunteer (ie you don't get paid for your position). God has called me to start this amazing ministry. I'm so pumped and excited about it and things are going really well! (BTW, it's called Joshua's House.) It is deffanitly a full time ministry, and I think for it to really go well, it will require that I work unpaid. In fact, that's what I'm pretty positive God is calling me to do.

Obviously right now, as the ministry is getting started, I am working unpaid, wherever I can between work and school. (I graduate from college in Dec - 3 classes left!!) I am really already working almost full time on Joshua's House. But because things are just getting starting there is no where near the funding to get me started. Even after funding comes in in larger amounts, I feel that God is asking me to do this as a service, not a career.

So, my question for any of you who might be full time volunteers is this - how do you do it? How do you get by financially. My husband is working, but he doesn't make near enough to support us, so I just wanted to get some of your feedback.

Thanks!

Maryann & I are Jail Ministry Volunteers ...

Here are some links that might be interesting , tools , ministries ...

We go into the county jail , 3 mens blocks 2 times a month , and write a weekly jail letter , that goes to 70 people each week ; 20-30 people at our church , ministers, friends, and 35 inmates in several facilities ...
it is not for everyone , but it has it's rewards , Matthew 25.32-42 ...

a long string of events ... couldn't sleep , talked to desk clerk , gave her scripture , a friend at church asked my to write , people liked the letter asked to be put on mailing list , prisoners shared with others ...

We manage our time a bit differently ... ministry work versus television ...
slow days at work / evenings ... I type a 4 page letter ;
another evening I print out 60-80 copies of letter and peel and stick on stamps and addresses
a third evening we fold and stuff and mail evelopes

we tithe , pay bills , food & sundries ...buy our ministry supplies ... paper, ink , cards, envelopes , manilla folders , stamps , etc. and live on what is left

we ask God to move in our behalf , to supply what we need ... Matthew 6.33, deuteronomy 28.1-6
