• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does anyone else have it where others around you question your diognosis of bipolar? I am bipolar, I know I am bipolar, but those around me know of others in thier life that have had bipolar and they act much different or worse than me, so therefore I dont have bipolar according to them even though 2 psychiatrists ahve diagnosed me with it????????

I was just diagnosed last week, though Ive kinda always known. Ive only told my mom, my husband, and a close friend. Ive noticed Im not taken seriously either, but Im OK with it. Especially where my husband is concerned. He has lived with me like this for almost 12 years, thru the good, bad, and very ugly. I think he's sort of formed his own way of coping with me, which in part involves tuning me out. It can be hurtful when Im really wanting to talk, be taken seriously, but I try to remember he has only seen the mood swings/hurts of my actions. He is human too and it's hard to just push that aside and support me 100%. It's almost like he just doesn't wanna discuss it. I feel like that will change as my meds start to stabilize me somewhat and he learns to "trust" me again. But bipolar is also something that's so common now days, it doesn't have a huge shock factor. It's very serious for the person living with it, but to many, it's just very commonplace, and no big deal. Make sense? Hang in there!!!

I have a milder version of bp2 than either my Dad or my son has. I don't necessarily have people ignoring it per se, but I do use this misconception to my advantage for situations when I would rather no one really know the truth. My med is an antiseizure, so when the wt loss clinic had to know my meds and asked about it, I simply told them it was an antiseizure med being used for an off label use. Technically, leaving a false impression is a lie-but I just didn't wanted to get into it all in that situation. If they had asked further, I owuld just say it is for a chronic condtion that is too complicated to get into. They might ask if they need to know about it and I just say "no". So I do use this to my advantage at times.

Dear 4givenme

Maybe you need to ask them where their degree hangs on the wall as you would like to see it.

Bipolar comes in all different shapes and sizes.
There's not one covering that fits them all.

It's sort of like being doctor Jekyll and Hyde. It might not of exposed it's self to them. YET

Don't worry about what others think just follow the doctors advise and you will fair the best.

ALWAYS REMEMBER:

XEven though you can't see Him, GOD is there!O
( click on the X and move to the O ) ( then feel who is around you )

Just let them know that there are so many different phases to BP. Everyone is different. I even change alot. Sometimes my manic episodes are really mean but sometimes they are where I CAN'T STOP CLEANING AND LAUGHING AND DANCING AND SINGING AROUND THE HOUSE FOR DAYS! Tell them nicely to not judge you until they have read up on it.
GOD BLESS!!
