I am interested in v19-21 from Gal 5.
I posted more of the chapter to get the flow of what Paul is teaching here

NKJV
13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Walking in the Spirit
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[c] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[d] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

It is easy to understand most of these flesh fruits.

Now about 'contentions' and 'dissensions', I have been wondering how these play out in our daily life including on internet forums.

Contentions ==http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G2054&t=KJV

Dissentions == Greek Lexicon :: G1370 (KJV)

How would you define both of these behaviors?
Contentions are defined as

: something (such as a belief, opinion, or idea) that is argued or stated
: anger and disagreement
: a situation in which you have a chance to win something that you are trying to win

Since we are told by Jude to contend for the faith,

3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. ,

seems like the only way you can do that and not be charged by the Lord as performing a work of the flesh, is to be contending in truth of the word of God. Seeing the manifold contentious, fractiousness, divisiveness I see displayed all over when discussing scripture, are not then those who are contending in error of the scripture performing a fruit of the flesh? Of which Paul warns us they will not inherit the kingdom of God? Such persons contending, taking a position, standing in false doctrines are really acting like false teachers.

It therefore seems to me that holding and arguing for a pet doctrine or interpretation of scripture is a contention only if it is false, that is contrary to scripture, what Peter calls twisting the scriptures to their own destruction.

What is going on that I see and so do others I am sure those debating scripture taking sides and contending for personal views between multiple people who are in scriptural error are not going to inherit the kingdom of God. Now Paul qualifies this somewhat by saying those that practice these things will not inherit.
And Paul mentions that he has warned them before as well.

What that speaks to me is such persons even when shown the truth refuse to repent of their errors and continue to contend and be divisive.

This is along the lines of Paul saying this

2 Tim 2
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

So does anyone care to add to some thoughts about this?
