Frugal living (type) forum

I went looking to see if there was a frugal living type forum here and was surprised there wasnt one.

So I figured I'd put in a request for something like that:thumbsup:

Well, given the economy and all, perhaps it might be a good forum to consider having where folks can share their own ideas in how they cut the their budgets and save money (here and there) Heck, I had a few ideas I was looking to add to one if you had one. But I guess not ^_^

But that would be my suggestion, sorta timely I would think too.

Thanks, God bless

In fact I have Rickster, wild onions, and they werent so bad, would love to find some of those pricey morel mushrooms (but no luck though)^_^

Not just in those ways though. For example I gave up deodorant (you can stop thinking, eew grossss lol) I found an alternative that works much better, that deodorant stone. One stone has lasted me a year and a half and works better then anything out there (I can even skip a day);). So I finally took that off my grocery list after buy 4 of those, and now Im set for years^_^

Or for example, razors, they are so pricey nowadays, so I bought a razor sharpener which makes the razor like new, and can use it ten times longer being sharpened in between.

Various things though. And I thought, I'd really love to find out others ideas and post mine too. I had a freind named Cramia she made hunting bows by hand, harvested wild blackberries in their season, making jelly and pies, she even drilled her own wells by hand, and a thousand other things. She lives completly off the grid in Hawaii, I envied the life of less is more. I think its so kool.

I search for those sorta ideas all the time:thumbsup:

Its fun when you make a game out of it for yourself. I had a neighbor who sorta inspired me to it as well, her name was Maryjane, she was a millionare who lived in an 800 square foot home and drove a 15 year old corrolla, she was loaded because she made it a game. Always lived wayyyy beneathe her means and occupied herself doing things herself, canning, baking, gardening living creatively, theres something fun about it. It appeals to me actually.

Hey, did your wife ever make thise soft buttery pretzels yet?

Im telling ya they are my new addiction ^_^

I'm with ya's.

Coupons! Man.. I used to do those (a long time ago) I need to start doing that again (this time) online. I think I tried once but I needed to dowload something, and I was warry, but I got a new printer which said it has something on it for coupon printing and I thought, Kool! I got to get me some of those online coupons, and I forgot. I gotta get on that.

Can you reccomend a few decent coupon sites?

Coupons.com is the number one site.
Sometimes you can get coupons on facebook from vendors fanpages.

I think we have a couple different "printer apps" from different places.
I'd rather wait till we got a forum before getting into it too much.

Also nowadays you can get "coupons" adding to store reward cards.

Thank you blissfulwife, yes I am familiar with the one you shared. I too do the store card:thumbsup: and ofcourse I like Sams club for bulk items. My husband likes that crystal light stuff, our store has the small for $3.99, but amazon has the large for 2.50 (and free shipping!) So sometimes you can get alot more for alot less shipped to your home! (I love so that) I have found cheaper deals for the weirdest stuff in the strangest places lol

I hope they open a forum like that, but I was reading someone elses thread and I thought it said they were not opening up any more forums. Unless I didnt understand what they meant by that, but that would be strange to keep this forum up (if thats the case)?

We'd have fun (if not here) there are frugal type forums on the net I frequent, though I am not a participant but more of a lurker.

Maybe someone could tell us if they are not adding anymore forums, if they stop by and read this.

God bless you

I think that's a great idea. But what I would rather see is a prepper forum. That way, it would accomodate a wider category of people.

Prepping, by it's nature, is very frugal but by making the forum geared more toward prepping, you could accomodate people looking for "frugal living" topics, as well as those of us who are interested in sustainable living, bartering, homesteading, etc.

I know in our experience, we've saved tens of thousands of dollars over the years through the frugal lifestyle prepping includes.

I myself have looked into the same but those type of things fall under frugal living.

I would have never known to look for it under something called "prepping"

We need sustainable lingo

But I am the first to admit I am always the last to know^_^

"How to live cheap" might work better, because (then) I dont think folks (who might be unfamiliar with all the lingo) could mistake it for something else (like me)^_^

But really, I could care less what its called:thumbsup:

I love this idea for a forum, too. Because of the numerous number of topics, I would like to see it broken down into some categories like food, solar, etc.

Love it:thumbsup: Been looking into that cansolair and I need to catch what the solar lingo is when it come to how to determine how many is needed to make any real difference.

For example, I was looking for a way to have lightbulb (singular) in a chicken coop, and it way exceeded $1500 or something, I was like what?? LOL Then ins and outs of drawing from the stored energy and batteries are not as I supposed, theres alot to it, their cost and all, which makes perfecting it even more costly so as not to constantly drain them or something. But then (in comparison) cansolair much huger was like $2700 to heat your home.. something feels amiss is all I can say. Though I watched this video on youtube where a woman by herself built her own, it was HUGE (much cheaper) and worked beautifully, and I was thinking, make your own, folks out there are willing to sell you their plans for less which seems to outproduce whats on the market (at their prices) by comparison.

Cansolair... the system will heat, filter and de-stratify about 8,000 CU Ft. of air every hour and a half. The unit has an air exchange rate of about 100 Cubic Feet Per Minute.

I need to figure out what that means, or how many it will take to make a difference in the square footage of our home. It would stink if we needed 3 of these at nearly $3000 a piece or $9000 installed but worked only a small portion a day, saving us what? Over what period of time? And math is not my strong piont lol

Sometimes it just seems financially feasable to invest in a decent down coat and live with your heat just above freezing ^_^

Too frugal perhaps lol, but if the eskiomos can do it so can I ^_^

God bless

Can you start a thread (or several) on this area: Business & Economics - Christian Forums and see how it catches on.. if there's a lot of response to it there's a better chance of a forum being created for the sole purpose of frugal living.

I know that they're not keen on creating new forums that might not get much traffic at all.

If you want to you can post the thread links in this thread for easier access when they evaluate. :)

Thanks Nilla,

Someone here feel free to start one, Im bad at starting things.

If it takes off where they are discussing the stock market (bulls and bears) I'll be mightily surprised ^_^

Sorta feels like how sewing might take off in an area discussing football though ^_^

Maybe ask them how the can good stocks are doing too?

Heh heh, bustin wit cha.

Someone else start, Im not going to.

Angeldove posted a link to the frugal forum she goes to in my Visitor page, if you want to check it out. Theres alot of them onlne, they are all very active forums with many participants. Folks are looking for this kind of thing, because things are tight.

However I believe the forums which are "out there" are better equipped. The best we could do here is post links to" those forums" I suppose, so whats the point Im beginning to think?

However I just thought it was a good idea (here) because maybe some folks dont know about them, and alot of folks are struggling. I know my mom is struggling, and told her, "Mom get online and look into frugal living" there are forums full of people helping others in these areas. These encompass many areas, meal planning (to save there) in the simplest sense of things to help the average person to the person who wants to be even more self sufficient (in a more extreme sense. Theres a little bit of everything for everyone of every age and situation. Well, she is new to the internet, and doesnt know what to look for either. But I know (for me) its fun (and addictive) to look for ways to save, challenging and rewarding too:thumbsup:

The forums out there on frugal living are packed, these having so many subforums of their own which are packed. So it might be best to just go to those, they are pretty much established, so we'll probrobly be linking to them anyway right?

God bless

I agree. I see so many Christians drowning in debt- which shouldn't be. We should be "set apart" and different from the world. How much more of a blessing can we be if we were out of debt?! I am happy to say that my hubby and I paid off $48,000 of debt, both our cars and just paid CASH for our new house! We are debt -free!! I would love to have a forum where we can encourage each other in that endeavor!

A great site to help Christians would be the "Saving with Renee" site.

She helps people think about money differently, get out of debt, save on practically everything, and bless others in the meantime!

Another great site would be "Dave Ramsey's" site.

Anyways, I would love to see a Financial forum also.... blessings!

Thanks for the reccomendation lodoren, I'll check it out. We too are debt free save the mortgage, I honestly would like to get rid of it and buy down (myself) I cant get the hubby to budge on the house. We dont pay alot on it but the electric is more then half of the house payment.

I'd love to get a tiny home, something under 500 square feet, I love small houses they are adorable, cozy and because I detest cleaning (to be honest) ^_^

God bless

In order to do it- we went "drastic". We first sold our other house (3,000 ft) and moved into an apartment (1500 ft) to be able to save money. It's a good thing we did, too, because that's when the whole housing market dropped. We were able to drastically downsize, save on taxes, utilities, yard work, etc.... and then were able to take our time to look around for a house. We ended up buying a house smaller than our first one (2400 ft) and it's the perfect size for us! Plus our electric bills are under $100.00/month due to it being an eco -friendly, energy saver house. It's so worth it to really sit down and figure out what's important to you- the huge house or being debt & stress free! And what it will take to get there! Blessings to you!!
