We sponcered Paul in May, and next month Marty Goetz is doing us the favor of a benefit concert to raise money for our building fund.

We aren't doing anything but our regular service Saturday in the Sukkah but I think some more Shamashin will be brought in and we will lay hands on them. The next day we will be in a park in town though to share with a Gospel church what Sukkot is and also to teach them Isreali dance and worship. I look forward to this greatly. I think that since I couldn't do what I wanted this year( build our own sukkah because of moving) that we will go tomorrow night and have our Erev Shabbat dinner in the sukkah and put up some branches and do some praying over the three offers we have on our house, the L-rd is sooooooo GOOD!!!

ON Shabbat! the High Holy Shabbat?
I thought the same thing... but this is more or less typical of MJ'ism... so I wasn't too surprised.

For example, a couple of months ago my wife and I visited Simchat Yeshua in Indianapolis (a rather large MJ congregation). After the Sat. morning service everyone went out to eat at a local resturant, and the Rabbi announced where they were going to eat as if it were a congregaton thing.

As well, they sold stuff in their messianic store after services on friday night and saturday (which is very very common in MJ congregations).

so...

yep, didn't shock me too much.

I will be going to Ocean Shores Holiday Inn Express for Sukkot on Monday next week. The itinerary is as follows:
Tishri 14(Oct 10) Arrival and building of Sukkah
Tishri 15(Oct 11) Bible Pictionary, New Moon Calendar Issues
Tishri 16(Oct 12) Spiritual Gardening, Sacred Names
Tishri 17(Oct 13) The Resurrections, Resurrections Bible study
Tishri 18(Oct 14) The Trinity, Dance workshop
Tishri 19(Oct 15) Kingdom District
Tishri 20(Oct 16) Beach scavenger hunt
Tishri 21(Oct 17) ?
Tishri 22(Oct 18) Holy day stucture in New Testament, Spreading of the Jewish Church
Tishri 23(Oct 19) ?

There is more going on then what is on the itinerary. I just don't know exactly what else is going on.

If you have a job for me I'll move to where you live

About the money changers? Well, I don't know what to say. Why did Yeshua kick around the money changers in the Temple? I would say because they were doing it for profit and not for YHWH. I sure hope those who are selling on the Sabbath are doing it for YHWH and not for profit. After all a shepard is worth his work for YHWH.

Shalom,

Yes, you are right - and rabbi after rabbi in MJ wonder why their ministry is more attractive to the gentiles than to the Jews.

And I bet more that a few of the men wore their kippot into the restaurant, thinking they were somehow witnessing - if they only realized WHAT they were "witnessing!" THIS is why we need a Beit Din - each congregation making it's own halakah is the cancer eating away at the innards of MJ! But I have little hope that even a Beit Din would really help most of these congregations - the "biological/organic" heritage of MJ is the full-gospel/evangelical/charismatic movement - a more confirmed bunch of "all we need is the Ruakh to teach us - don't need no outside authority but G-d" ("just the bible and me") you're not going to find!

shock, no --- despair, yes

I have been in congregations where the rabbi claimed to be "one of the most orthodox in the movement" where the congregation nearly cracked over whether we should have a work day to clean up the grounds on Shabbat after services!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just left a congregation we had been for years where the leadership claimed to be Torah obedient and growing in that direction but where the observance of kashrut in the community kitchen was a constant battle but where a raw food nutritionist who did not see any reason that kosher saw better than her food system was set up before the congregation and community as a teacher - being given every Tuesday evening to teach her health views AND have a non-kosher tasting party authorized by the rabbi and rebbitzen. (we did not leave over this specific event, but this is an example of why we left)

Good Grief! What next?

I am thankful that my congregation or should I say my Rabbi is moving towards a more strickter application of Shabbat law. We do not sell anything on Shabbat though some balk at this, as well my husband and I do not stop anywhere on the way home, going to lunch or dinner or stopping to shop or get gas. We have a completely ( Biblical) Kosher oneg and are encouraged to follow that at home as well. My husband and I do eat Biblical Kosher at home as well as in resturants but not all in the congregation have been convicted of this as yet.

This one man was letting me look at one of his books on how to run a kosher kitchen, and while I was looking at it he told me that he had the dishes for the meat and the dishes for the dairy and the dishes for the Non- Kosher food. Oy!

Just a side note to those that do follow a Kosher lifestyle not sure if you are aware but not all eggs are Kosher. There are many Eggs Farms that feed the chickens chopped up old chicken parts so they are basically canabalistic and this I feel renders them un Kosher. You need to look for eggs that say grain fed, no anti-biotics, natural, that type of thing, along with the U or K of course.

I believe that cannabalism is against halacha. Thus it would render the chickens unclean and they would never be raised on a kosher farm... fyi.
But still, it is good to know what the chickens eat.

and the dishes for the Non- Kosher food. Oy!
oh wow, I've never heard of this before! Why keep kosher at all?

We have a completely ( Biblical) Kosher oneg and are encouraged to follow that at home as well.
Here's a neat halachic tip that you might want to use in your home... my wife and I love to do it. You actually bake 2 Challah loaves and one is called either "For the L-rd" or "For the Messiah". You donate the second loaf to charity or give it away to friends or family. You keep the first loaf like you normally would.

the congregation nearly cracked over whether we should have a work day to clean up the grounds on Shabbat after services!
I've actually been to several mj congregations where they have work days or 'clean up day' on Shabbat! But then again, in college I went to a reform synagouge for awhile (only thing within a reasonable driving distance) and they had clean up days on shabbat too.

My wife and I aren't that stringent on Shabbat laws. Granted, in our home we incorporate many other shabbat observances, but we aren't that strict about it either. However, there are some very basic principles that seem to be ignored widely by MJ'ism... not working, not spending money, etc... Nothing strenuous, just very elemental shabbat observances.

Why would one go to a resturant (spending money) yet wear their kippah and Tallit? Maybe it's just me?

oy.

Well, and this is just a theory I came up with about 2 seconds ago, could it be that these people are having trouble letting go of the church? I've seen it mentioned that most in the MJ movement are gentile, which would mean that they are probably coming from a christian background. Having a "work day" after the service, going out to eat, etc., are all common occurrences at most protestant churches(I can only speak for the protestants as that is my background). Could it be that they are trying to observe Torah without it setting them apart from the christian world?

I also love the musical styles of Psalters and Kevin Prosch.

Psalters is an underground band that most people probably haven't heard of, but here's their website:

www.psalters.com

They incorporate what is known as 'temple music'... music that would be traditionally played in the Temple... with modern styles and instruments from all around the world. They call themselves 'pslaters' because they believe they are writing pslams for this generation. Very very passionate music.

Kevin Prosch is a christian worship leader who has worked a lot with messianic groups and his musical styles are also very ecclectic. He and his band have traveled around the world studying methods and techniques from different tribes and cultures and then using their instruments in his worship. Often his music will gain slowly, much akin to modern Emo music, and after the climax/crescendo it will crash into a very emotial, almost crying, state of intimacy.
It's very beautiful... and you can check him out at:

www.kevinprosch.com

I especially love these two bands not only for their musical styles, but also because their music is less focused on dogma/doctrine and more on emotional outpouring and expression.

Shalom and shalom ya'all.

yeah, he's actually the one who put them together.

That was a number of years ago though. I don't think they've done anything in years.

Basically, he wanted a group where he could go to the bars and minister without preaching... if you know what I mean. They ended up being quite popular and they made a cd.
