  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a friend that is a Christian but she won't give up her bad language and refuses to just turn the other cheek when something bad about her is said.. I know it isn't easy to not listen to these things but most of the time something bad about her is said she started it by saying something bad about the person insulting her.  Anyways, I tried to bring it up to her and told her that Satan might be using this girl to bring hate out in her.  She took that to mean that she was full of satan.. and now she is really mad at me.

Well if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.  If not prayer would be awsome too.

In Christ,

JoJo

ugh.....yea foul language. Its really bad, but i think alot of us struggle with it. I definately do....and even in front of younger christians, and I always feel like so bad after that cos I completely stumbled them. Guess we just gotta let God work in her, changing her. we're supposed to rebuke in love, so you really should tell your friend that you're doing this out of love.... that its for her own good. And maybe reminding her that we christians are all humans too... so bad habits CAN be overcome. And maybe letting her into some of your weaknesses will make her feel less inferior becos rage has alot to do with self-esteem.

*hugs* its really great that you have so much love that you bother to care for her this much. I'll be praying for your situation. :)

Hmm...I'd let her cool off a little. You have to be careful with things like this cause people think you're poking a finger at them, which isn't the case. I'd point out verses in the bible about talking smack and foul language.
Then leave it at that cause it's something she's gonna have to work through. Once she knows what the bible says, the seed planted will grow in its own good time. I've found that the best way to deal with things like this is to encourage the other person and not be judgemental, or in this case be in a way that can be taken as so. Be creative too. There's one person that when ever they said teh "F" word I would tell them that they had the most amazing usage of it. "You use the "F" word brilliantly."
It worked. SHe realized that people noticed and she pretty much has a handle on it now.
Did any of that make any sense at all?

That makes total since.  Thanks everyone!

Well an update, we talked and the reason she was mad at me was due to a big misunderstanding and I think she realizes what I was trying to tell her.  As for her foul language.. We looked at a passage in bible study last night that talked about it briefly, so I'm hoping she got the message.  I might try what you did too.

Thanks everyone for your prayers!

Alot of Christians I know seem to have no problem using foul language and getting drunk. I've always been taught by my parents that using foul language and drinking alcohol (to get drunk) is wrong, so it's kind of annoying seeing all these people who claim they are Christians going out, getting drunk and using foul language while doing it.

I know I am a sinner and I'm not judging these people but things like envy, lying, etc are harder to control than not using bad language or getting drunk, so I don't see what the problem is for some people, I understand if you used foul language alot before you became a Christian that some words might "slip out", but eventually you should be able to control it.
