Friday Crucifixion?

Could someone please reconcile a Friday crucifixion with Matthew 12:40 and Luke 24:21?

As I recall there is a conflict between our tendency to think of 3 days as akin to 72 hours and 3 full days versus what would be three days in the terms of people in the past. Jesus was crucified and died on Friday. They had to hurry to get him buried before the beginning of the Sabbath which started that evening. So by then they are into day 2 by their reckoning. Then Sunday morning is day 3.
