What do Christians think of Freedom of Religion?

I am not sure what Christians think as a whole but as for me I agree with it.

I am curious as to why Christians support that freedom.

The reason simply put is this: why would you force someone to love God? That wouldn't even be love. No matter what you do if you force someone to love or do something 99% of the time they are not genuinely giving love or whatever it may be. God wants genuine love, not robotic, forced love.

God Bless

What do Christians think of Freedom of Religion? Clearly the vast majority of Christians support that freedom. I am curious as to why Christians support that freedom.

Three answers:

(1) history -- things worked out better in the past in European countries with Freedom of Religion (like the Netherlands);

(2) nobody wants the government to pick one branch of Christianity and make it compulsory; and

(3) Christians want non-Christians to believe in Jesus voluntarily. Christianity does not support "forced conversions."

There are limits on Freedom of Religion, though. For example, both Christians and non-Christians would want human sacrifice to remain banned (i.e. no allowing religiously motivated murder). Many people are dubious about permitting polygamy.

Why would we want a forced religion?
I would be quite upset if our government suddenly decided to enforce a "state religion". Suppose they decided to enforce some other religion than Christianity? Not an impossibility, in these days.
However, even if the religion were Christianity, which denomination would it be? I would not wish to be forced to become a member of some branch of Christianity that would try to force doctrines on me that I cannot accept.

God could, if He wanted, force everyone to worship His Son. His power is limitless.
He chose not to. I figure He knows what He's doing, eh?

I support it because the faith that is required in Christianity must be compulsory. I believe a society and our laws should be based on Christian teachings and morals but as long as their religion does not command them to do something immoral and against the law then they could live within the country freely and be treated equally.

because we are supposed to tell everyone about the gospel, and let them choose whether they accept it or not. If they don't accept it, then you leave. If they do accept it, help them grow in the faith.

Luke 9:4-5
4And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”
