• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does free speech include the right to spread falsehood? If so, why? If not, what’s the punishment for doing so? For the sake of argument let’s assume whatever falsehood is being spread can indeed be proven false.

People do in fact sometimes lie, or spread lies.

One's speech can not be controlled by anyone other than themselves. Therefore people are free to speak ... in doing so there may or may not be consequences/punishments.

Lies may or may not have consequences/punishments, legally, ethically, morally, spiritually.

Lies that cause tangible harm and are verifiable are generally illegal if done by someone who should know better, as they should be. If they are a matter of opinion they are protected as free speech.

You are allowed to lie. There are two exceptions generally, defamation and fraud.

Romans 3:4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge."

Should we all then be silenced?

More disturbing though, who will be the truth police?

The Left wants to set up a "truth commission" and come after all those who don't agree with them. In fact, they want to come after all Trump supporters, assuming he loses.
