  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Went shopping today in another city about an hour from here. That mall has a motherhood store, after look for pants in vain, I ended up with this really nice sun dress. I tried it on with the belly over my belly and it should fit for a while...and it was on clearence.

Then when I got to the check out, I got signed up for free coupons and free samples and got this whole bag of free samples and coupons. Same thing happened in Old Navy.

I got tons of free samples of stuff when I was pregnant and when my daughter was a baby even though I never signed up for anything. I wonder if they got my info from my OB. Unfortunately most of the free stuff I got was from formula companies and they always sent formula to me during the key breastfeeding times when a lot of mothers quit (times like growth spurts). Seemed a tad bit unethical to me. Can't knock getting the free diaper samples though

When I was pg in the US, the only free samples/coupons were from formula companies or prenatal vitamins. Since I declared that I was breastfeeding, they didn't give me the formula ones. I didn't use the vitamin ones, as I don't really think you should take them unless you have an obvious problem (apart from folic acid in the first 3 months).

The hospital that I was at was trying to get baby-friendly accreditation, so I was spared the mint-green ghastly nappy bag.

Here in the UK, there is a company that coordinates free samples called Bounty. They give out pregnancy packs, new mother packs and weaning boxes. They'd have samples of mostly baby-related things, but often things that any young woman would like, such as skin creams and teabags. The weaning boxes were very lucrative as they contained lots of babyfood jars and dried mixes which could be put in the back of the cupboard for emergencies (I never ever used them, but was happy they were there).

I don't know if I'll get formula because when asked if I'd breastfeed my answer was "I hope so.".

You could always decline them

It is not good to have formula and bottles in the house when you are going through the early days of breastfeeding. If you get truly desperate, there are plenty of 24hr places that sell formula and bottles.

At the hospital where I delivered my daughter they asked if I was going to breast feed or bottle feed. I told them that I would be breast feeding only and not to give her any formula or anything else. They still gave her formula without my permission and sent me home with bottles of Enfimil and an Enfimil diaper bag. I was also still sent formula in the mail as well.

I haven't actually seen much in the way of freebies, the only one I've seen contained freebie bottles and forumula milk so I declined with sad regrets.

Linnis . . I don't if you should get some formula milk in, it sets up the wrong attitude to breastfeeding if you have some formula in 'just in case', if you don't have any in you'll work harder at breastfeeding because you wont' have a fall back.

Didn't you post once that you'd already started milk production? If that's the case you've probably not got alot to worry about.

Well I gave my formula samles to a friend who's due 2 weeks before me, she's choosing to formula feed.

Yes, I am getting leakage, have been wearing nursing pads since 17 weeks. According to my Aunt, women in my family have LOTS of milk. I really hope to breastfeed but it still depends on my health, if I have to be on medication that's poisonous to the baby it'll be a no go.
