Fred Phelps and his "website"

I was just floored by a friend who told me about a site...I won't even post the link because it's so utterly blasphemous and against what the bible tells us about God. If you truly want to see what he promotes, do a google search.

How can this man hide behind this website and promote this stuff???

It just bowled me over! I honestly had never heard of the guy till now. When I went to his site (which I now regret because then the visits make it look as if his site is popular) I sat here open mouthed as I read the first few pages.

Here are a couple of problems with Fred's "ministry", that immediately come to mind...

a) He and his followers absolutely delight in the fall that homosexualists are taking. If God doesn't delight in the death of sinners, and implores that they "choose life", then I can hardly see how we, His servants, can do anything remotely to the contrary. They've even made it a part of their pet "theology" that homosexualists cannot repent, based on a false understanding of how sin blinds a person to the truth. While this is true, no sin (including sodomy) can absolutely negate the possibility of repentence, since God gives this opportunity to all men throughout their lives. Also, sodomy is not the only sin capable of blinding a man (indeed, all sin does this, including hatred, and cold heartedness towards one's neighbour.)

b) His antics (and those of his followers) are so comical and in bad taste, that they're not going to be taken seriously by anyone. If anything, they do tremendous harm to the truth, and only make sinners more firmly rooted in their resistance to the prospect of repentence. I think Phelps realizes this, since he doesn't think homosexuals can repent anyway - which makes me wonder why he and his gang bother with the protests to begin with. Well, I don't wonder, since it's pretty clear why they do - because they're sadists, and get off on name calling. Very sad, and in it's own way just as soul killing as the sins of homosexualists.

Do you remember the death of Matthew Shepard, who was tied up and beat till dead because he was gay?

He has also planned to put up a 6ft monument is Shepards home town reading,

"Matthew Shepard entered Hell October 12, 1998, at age 21 in defiance of God's solemn warning: 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.' Leviticus 18:22,"​

Last I have read, they have yet to figure out a way to stop him from putting up the monument, but at least the city is trying.

I heard that too...just today in fact and that's the reason for this thread. I couldn't believe someone would be so ignorant of Gods love towards people (and just so devoid of common human decency) that they'd picket a FUNERAL and try to put a monument like that on someones grave.

Some are more subtle about their support when they post links to the lies of the family research council or Focus on the Family and other hate groups that help give Phellps ammunition. Of course the worst of Phelps supports are the ones who sit quietly and say and do nothing.

Without background knowledge of him, if Phelps came here and started spouting off his stuff, I think I would bet $20 that he was an anti christian troll just trying to make christians look stupid.

Here's a news flash --- a large numer of those who CALL themselves "CHRISTIAN", have no CLUE what it MEANS. Jesus commented on this in Matt7:21. They cast demons, prophesied, did mighty works; why, some were DEACONS, sang in the CHOIR, never missed a SERMON! And Jesus will sadly say, "Depart from Me, I NEVER KNEW YOU!"

Please read the definition of LOVE in 1Cor13:4-8; now read the characteristics that unavoidably ACCOMPANY the SAVED in Gal5:22-23; and the traits that unavoidably ACCOMPANY the lost AND the "pretenders" in Gal5:19-21 (Paul says in vs 21 "they WON'T go to HEAVEN!") --- and you have a good guage to see who is really SAVED, and who is NOT...

Of course Phelps thinks he's "more Christian" than the majority of Christians. He thinks those who condemn him or don't support his views aren't "true Christians" either. It's quite interesting.

I think Phelps is hateful - I have not looked at his website and never will. I tell anyone who asks that he is hateful.

Volos, I've not seen anyone support Phelps. And Focus on the Family also provides support to families raising children. Dobson's books on raising children are as classic (and much more realistic than) as Dr. Spock's and lead to much better adjusted children. I agree that he is against homosexuality, but that's his opinion and he's entitled to it.

Phelps' opinion, on the other hand, is dangerous!

Volos, I've not seen anyone support Phelps.

I've seen people on this site support his activities, agree with his theology, and use his site as a source of information. It is sad how common it can be.
