Anyone who knows me, either online or offline, knows what a big fan I am of the Leader, the Chairman of the Board, Ol' Blue Eyes, Swoonatra....and so on. When Frank Sinatra died, I was only a child, but I knew enough to know that he was very big. I had never heard him before I decided to buy "The Very Good Years", a reprise CD, in Wal-Mart. I was very impressed by Frank, although that's like saying "I found the ocean to be quite wet".

So, does the Voice have a following here? I've noticed that people my age don't appreciate him, which is too bad, but their loss. Actually, the girls in the youth group at church are fans of the Ratpack, although they tend more toward Dean Martin than Sinatra.

I do love Sinatra's music, but I tend to be a bit of an oddball.

Most people only know his Capitol recordings, which would include "The Very Good Years", but I'm much more of a fan of his music from the 30's and 40's.

He and his music both changed a lot after his comeback. Some is good, but it isn't his best. Personally, if you like his post-comeback material, you should check out Joe Wilson.

The big band stuff that he did with the Dorseys and the great big bands of the 30's and 40's will always be my favorite.

I'll tell you what the difference between post-comeback solo and the classic period is. A good singer understands that it's about the song, not about them.

After Frank went solo, it became all about him and not about the song.

When he sang with the Dorseys, he understood that he was there to relate a song to an audience, and not to use the song as a spotlight for himself.

I also tend to go with the girls. Dino is better.

I'm 43 and was always more familiar with Frank's movies than his music. I've got a couple of the compilation albums on my ipod now. I'll listen to him but rarely seek him out.

One funny memory--back in my late teens a couple of friends of mine went very early to a local record store--which was also a ticket outlet--to line up for concert tix for some we liked at the time. When we got there, there we're probably 30 or so "old" people already in line.

They were there for Sinatra tickets.

I'm 18 and I love Frank. He is amazing, he music is so calming and it makes me want to go back to that time and just live in that music. Whenever I listen to it, I picture myself on a date in an outside resturant with a small band playin and him singing and we are just dancing the night way without a care in the world.

Very peaceful
