  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“The Apostles were healing on Credit because Jesus was not whipped yet.” – Pete Cabrera Jr.

Healing is part of the finished Work of Jesus Christ. We remember it every time we do communion, that his body was broken for our healing. At the Whipping Posts, all of humanity was included and every healing was performed at that moment. In the Old Testament, healing was by faith, looking forward to the promises of what Jesus would eventually do. Today, in the New Covenant, healing is a fact, because the whipping post is a staple of history.

God really wanted everyone to be healed and walk in health. There are basically four ways He has provided means for us to have life in our physical bodies for each place we are at. Firstly, For the unbeliever, healing is a sign (Mark 16:17), by the laying on of the believer’s hand onto the unbelieving sick person, they can be healed. For the new believer who doesn’t have faith for themselves, we are told to call the elders and they will come, anoint with oil and the prayer of faith will heal the sick (James 5:14-16).

If you are a mature Christian, you can be healed by Communion.

1 Corinthians 11:29 – 30 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

The damnation of Communion is not sin as some would have you believe. In fact, if you have sin, you need to drink the cup of Communion by faith, as a testimony that by his Blood all your sins are forgiven (Ephesians 4:32 )! The Condemnation in this passage is “Not Discerning the Lord’s Body. ”

I don't think God is limited to how mature we are in Christ to decide how He is going to heal us. I have been walking with Jesus for many years and He has healed me through the laying on of hands, through calling for the elders of the church and being anointed with oil, through Communion, through praying for myself, through worship, and through spoken words for healing. Sometimes one way, sometimes another. No limits.

Christiansst, you said: "1 Corinthians 11:29 – 30 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

"The damnation of Communion is not sin as some would have you believe. In fact, if you have sin, you need to drink the cup of Communion by faith, as a testimony that by his Blood all your sins are forgiven (Ephesians 4:32 )! The Condemnation in this passage is 'Not Discerning the Lord’s Body.'"

After saying that whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of the body and blood of the Lord, verse 28 in that chapter says: "So let a man examine himself, (and after examining himself) let him eat the bread and drink the cup. The examination is to look for something that would cause him to be unworthy of taking communion...sin in his life. It would have been worded differently if it meant only discerning the Lord's body or recognizing the finished work of Jesus at Calvary. It would have said, "Let a man examine the suffering of Jesus." So, I think it is a rather risky thing to tell people to go ahead and take communion without looking inward and ridding themselves of sin through confession to God. I believe that it is a combination of sin in their lives and not discerning the stripes of Jesus that causes the results of verse 30, which says that the unworthy taking of communion makes people sick and causes early death in some.

You said: "In fact, if you have sin, you need to drink the cup of Communion by faith, as a testimony that by his Blood all your sins are forgiven (Ephesians 4:32 )!" But Ephesians 4:32 actually says "And be ye kind, one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you." Doesn't quite carry your point, CSTT

No need to say it twice... :)

The word "damnation" in the KJV is an inaccurate translation and gives the wrong idea of the sense of the verse. The true sense of the verse is that the consequence of not discerning the Lord's body is that church members are sick and some die before their time. It is not that they are condemned to hell by it.

The other problem is that some have interpreted "the Lord's body" as the Christian church. This is also an error. Paul is talking about the representation of the Lord's body that was broken on the cross for us, and that his body was broken so that our bodies may be made whole.

Those who discern that the Lord's body in the communion is for the healing of our bodies are the ones who most benefit from eating the bread.

But of course, you know that already...:)
