In light of some other discussions on the board, and not to dereail a perfectly good thread, I thought I would make this thread where the founders of this country and their Freemasonry leanings could be discussed.

There seems to be much division of opinion when it comes to the Freemason's. Some say they are evil - others say they are good.
Some say they started out good then turned evil. I wonder who really knows for sure?

I am or was a freemason for years. My experiece with them was very positive and I came away from it feeling that I was a better man for joining them. It is a secret fraternity of men and has a lot of religious overtones in it's ceremonies. The organization/s does a lot of good for children all over the world with their hospitals. If there are senister origins or under pennings I certainly didn't see any at the level I was which was a 32 degree Scottish rite mason.

Well, I guess the best way to elaborate on this is to say once you are a mason you are considered a mason for life. I am not a practicing mason and have not paid my dues for a couple of years now. I could not sit in an open lodge without a paid up dues card. The thing that made me decide to get out of it was the vision E.G. White had concerning the lodge. An angel showed her some of the secret signs and gestures and told her that it was not what God wanted His children to be a part of. She was shown this after a member of the church in Australia was defending his activities in the lodge. Anyway, that was all I needed to decide to get out of it.

Like I said the mason's do a lot of good in this world. It's just too bad they are not more aligned with the will of The Creator.

Thanks Jim for your candid answer and viewpoint. I don't mind saying I have a history with Freemasonry myself. My father was a Freemason, but much like you and your situation. However, he was buried with his Masonic pinky ring on. My sister was a Job's Daughter and a past honored queen. Same thing with my own daughter.

But I didn't realize the nature of this type of worship nor did I realize the "occultic" background of many of Freemasonry's rituals and practices until much later in life. Then, after becoming an Adventist, to see what Mrs. White had to say regarding Freemasonry was indeed eye-opening.

Now, before the time comes when you must render up your account to God, I urge you to give heed to His word, "Lay up for yourselves" a "treasure in the heavens" (Matt. 6:20; Luke 12:33), not in secret societies. Consider that there is only one Proprietor of the universe, and that every man, with his time, his intellect, his resources, belongs to the One who has paid the ransom for the soul. God has a righteous claim to constant service and supreme affection. God's will, not your pleasure, is to be your criterion. And though you should accumulate a fortune less rapidly, you are laying up treasure in heaven. Who of the church is resolved to maintain his spirituality? Who will develop an experience that reveals Christian fervor, persevering energy? Who, like Jesus, will not fail nor be discouraged, not in grasping means for the service of self, but in laboring together with God? {2SM 137.1}

Those who stand under the bloodstained banner of Prince Immanuel cannot be united with the Free Masons or with any secret organization. The seal of the living God will not be placed upon anyone who maintains such a connection after the light of truth has shone upon his pathway. Christ is not divided, and Christians cannot serve God and mammon. The Lord says, "Come out from among them, and be ye separate, . . . and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty" (2 Cor. 6:17, 18).--Letter 21, 1893. {2SM 140.1}

All secrete societies have two different teachings: the exoteric and the esoteric. Only the highest degree (32nd and 33rd) are initiated into the higher Illuminati orders and are taught the esoterics: the inner doctrine.

All lower degree masons are gorins/uninitiated and are taught the exoterics.

Do you know the names of the men in the picture and their degrees? Whom in the picture EGW spoke highly of?

I mean if these are masons (and it does look like it) what were they doing with EGW?? at a camp meeting in Nevada 1888??

As a Christian (former Catholic) and former Mason, I can tell you that there are a lot of problems with Freemasonry, from a biblical perspective. Namely they are arguably a religion, they have a false concept of God, a false concept of salvation, a false concept of what constitutes the Word of God, and they are a "racially segregated fraternity", which is an oxymoron.
