  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Over and over I hear from YECs AND non-evolutionist that it's only a matter of time before their line of reasoning is upheld. But it sure seems to be going the other way as can be seen in this article:

NEW YORK - Scientists have caught a fossil fish in the act of adapting toward a life on land, a discovery that sheds new light one of the greatest transformations in the history of animals.

Scientists have long known that fish evolved into the first creatures on land with four legs and backbones more than 365 million years ago, but they've had precious little fossil evidence to document how it happened.

The new find of several specimens looks more like a land-dweller than the few other fossil fish known from the transitional period, and researchers speculate that it may have taken brief excursions out of the water.

Interesting how there used to be so many creatures God made, that are no longer with us. Amazing. Some in the sea, some on land and some in the air, and some a bit of more than one. I wonder if God created these thing like that, or if, in the changing pre flood world, it had to adapt? Either way, what a marvelous creation God made 6000 years ago!

Very interesting find, thanks for posting it.

Gonna have to renew my Nature subscription now, tired of missing out on the new finds.
I dropped Nature when they stopped my discount rate and failed to expand their digital archive. Science magazine is the same price but you get total access from 1880 (every issue for over 125 years!) and many other membership advantages.

As far a a new transitional fossil goes, the creationist response is predictable; "Were you there?" "This is merely another plaster fake." "This is merely an example of microevolution." "They are really just fish." "There are still no transitional fossils between X1 and X#."

You forgot, "they made that up based on a few scattered bone fragments, just like Lucy's knee cap!!"

Impossible. There are no transitional forms.

That phrasing---they are phrasing an assumption as a fact. They assume that it is adapting, but have no way knowing or proving this.

Scientists have long known that fish evolved into the first creatures on land with four legs and backbones more than 365 million years ago, but they've had precious little fossil evidence to document how it happened.
Again, another assumption of something they couldn't have possibly known actually happened. Think about it: if they had "precious little fossil evidence"---then why would they theorize that in the first place?

Let's ask a few simple questions:

Why would the first creature that came up out of the sea start to develop lungs? If all it's and it's entire dwelling and habitat is in the ocean, why wouldn't it better adapt to that enviornment?

These are things that make evolution foolish.
