CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think O'Reilly really likes to blast things even if he doesn't understand them. Last night O'Reilly was yelling at an author that was saying that people say they have religion but none of them know much about what they say they believe in.
O'Reilly was yelling and yelling at the author about how faith isn't even allowed publicly, which is true in itself, but had nothing to do with the book and people's lack of studying theology on their own.
It made me think that he is sort of puffed up on the idea that the is a Crusader for Christian Morality and it sort of gives him blinders and he sort of barrels through using his own opinion as judge and jury.
Not that I totally dislike him, I hardly watch the show. This is just the impression I get from what I have watched.
The segment last night could have been really good in talking about people's shallow knowledge of the faith. I wanted to see what the author wanted to talke about, but O'Reilly seemed to have been argueing some other topic and not paying attention.

It was last year or two years ago maybe, when he kept on insisting on radio and even debated a priest on his TV show that the pope was senile, I lost what ever little respect I had for him. Saying that the pope dont even know hes pope anymore and Hes so out of it, he doesnt even know what day it is and The ones running the Vatican are the sharks that swim around him.geocajun said:

He claims to be a Catholic in good standing, but says, the philosophy of the religion isnt wrong so we should never leave the Church but the bishops are corrupt because the powerful will always protect the powerful.
What an idiot, to use his faith to promote his show to act like, hes not afraid to stand up to the Church. All these talk news radio and TV shows are not real journalism, but just another form of entertainment.

Most things which come from the media are nonsense. It's cheap scholarship.
But you know what's worse than a journalist? A person who becomes a historian overnight because they saw a report on "x". I loathe that person more. The journalist manipulates. The viewer interprets. All one needs is to tune to ABC and suddenly a member of the audience becomes an expert.
