My son has AS and SID and is a very, very affectionate child. However, my two year old daughter has never liked to be held close since the day she was born. We struggled through breastfeeding for four months before giving up and she was just content to sit in her carrier and eat her bottle. The moment you picked her up to feed her, she'd scream and arch her back. She still does not like to be held, cuddled, hugged or kissed. Otherwise, she seems perfectly normal. I know from my 'Out of Sync Child' book, she's considered hypersensitive while my son is completely hyposensitive. They are such opposites. My son will swing or spin seemingly forever whereas you cannot put my daughter on anything that moves. She asks to go on the swings and within 10 seconds or so is begging to get off. She hates the car.
How do parents deal with this? I've been trying to 'wean' her into receiving love. She knows that when I hug her, I'll count to five before releasing her and she does seem to be putting up with it a bit more.
I love her and want to make sure she receives the love she needs. Any thoughts or suggestions.
