To all the churches who never do ministry:
To all the Christians who preach hate instead of love:
This is what youve done.
Weve been tugging at the pages of a well-worn poem for years,
Thinking salvation will come from its recital, but it wont.
It was a glorious scheme with good intentions,
But in the end it was a man-made equation.
And when some money-hungry businessmen discovered
That they could make a fortune just by dressing as a preacher,
They developed a system of conversion and profit
That left out faith and true discipleship.
And we were dumb enough to let them in our churches.
And we were dumb enough to let them raise our kids.
Our cowardice has caused us to depart
From what we know it takes to truly live.
We show up just enough to justify morality,
Wear a forced smile, nothing close to sincerity.
We walk in dignified, no humility seen,
Because were dressed in our American prosperity.
Worship is dead: same words, different melody.
Church is a joke when entertainment is priority.
Sit down, stand up. Its all routine.
Do you think that God is pleased with our monotony?
We are what the prophets warned of.
Listen close. We are the heresy.
We are what the prophets warned of.
Were the enemy.
Dear God, our sermons are dry.
Where is the Gospel that You told us to preach?
These people are dying.
Why cant we get that through our heads?
Its like were numb to conviction.
We pass the time desensitizing ourselves.
Have we forgotten the cross?
Have we forgotten who You are?
Wake up.
Am I the only one awake?
Dont let me fall asleep.
