  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello brothers and sisters,

What arguments presented by Christians on this Forum has made you stop and think maybe there is a God?

Have any of you changed your mind about God since being on this Forum and why or why not?

For example:

Biblical arguments only (death by Bible verses)
Personal testimonies
Behaviour (language used etc) of Christians on this Forum
A particular post

Why is there no option for "no?"

Though, I suppose I could check "other" and explain that I was Christian when I first came here, and seeing the vileness of many other people who call themselves Christian was a part of why I left Christianity. Granted, it has very little to do with why I don't believe in any gods...

There is no option for 'no' because the question is directed at those you don't believe in God. Read it again.

On a personal note , why don't you believe in God anymore?

Yes, I understand that part. But asking "what arguments have made you stop and think that there may be a god? This one, this one, or this one?" presupposes that there are arguments which have made us stop and think that there may be a god. I think there should be an option for "I have not experienced this. No argument has made me feel this way.
On a personal note , why don't you believe in God anymore?

Eh, a full explanation requires more dimensions than this universe has, in order to make sense. The quick and dirty summary is that there is no evidence that that way of describing the world is actually true.

In answer to the first question, no. And what is more is that the standard apologetic arguments become very old, very, very quick.

And in answer to the second question, yes but it got worse (depending on your POV). I am not just disappointed, I am downright flabberghasted at how bad the argumentation for the existence of God generally is.

And as to the poll, I simply voted other.

Huh, so it does. That's a very different question than the one in the OP--what "has" made you question.

Hello brothers and sisters,
Hello Loco.
What arguments presented by Christians on this Forum has made you stop and think maybe there is a God?
Thus far none.
The trouble is recognizing logical fallacies in such arguements, which always seem to be there.
Have any of you changed your mind about God since being on this Forum and why or why not?
About gods existance? No.
About how people view god? Certainly, it has been interesting to see the many different ways people look at god (if alittle frustrating at times.)

Nothing comes to mind... I'd be surprised to find anything like that on a forum like this, but I would love to hear one. One thing's for sure, it won't come from the bible, a personal testimony, or from anyone's behavior. These are not likely to change the mind of a person that does not hold faith in such high regard. If anything, it would have to come from the other end of the spectrum of belief: facts or reason.

I voted other. The poll was addressed to non-Christians, and since I don't subscribe to the Nicene or Apostles' Creeds then I am not a Christian. That does not mean I am an atheist, only that I do not believe in the god of the Christians.

Edited to add: Still, if I had been a Christian, the ridiculously sloppy thinking exhibited by most of the religious people on this forum would have made me want to publicly distance myself. (Did you know that "cretin" originally meant "Christian" and "silly" originally meant "holy"?)

I'm confused about who this topic is directed at.

I will simply answer that I have considered, which is to say thought-through, the arguments for the existence of God presented by Christians here, but none of them have caused me to think that there really might be a God.

I will simply add that Bible verses have absolutely zero chance of making me rethink my worldview. You might as well quote Hubbard's Battlefield Earth in an effort to get me to rethink the existence of body-thetans.

True that. But I am not sure how. I don't know precisely how. I believe Jesus is the son of God, and my savior. I also disagree with most of what people on these boards say and how they say it.

I don't know how to label myself to distance myself as far as possible from them and their "thinking" though.
Got any ideas?

Nope. I didn't know that. Awful used to mean awe-ful or awe-inspiring. Words change.

On this forum, none as yet.

No, I haven't. I honestly have no idea what it would take to lead me to the conclusion that God exists. At the moment nothing seems convincing.

Biblical arguments are generally pretty poor, if you'll pardon me saying so. If I'm going to take into consideration Biblical arguments I'd also have to consider countless other religious claims of equal merit.

Personal testimonies are quite possibly the least convincing form of evidence.

Behaviour of Christians on this Forum doesn't really tell me anything about God, except that if the Christian God is real then he's not the best teacher/communicator.

As far as scientific arguments go, some folk claim to have plenty of evidence, some claim none is needed, and some that none is possible. I'm not sure how scientific evidence of God would work (as AV often points out).

On this forum? -> None ...

Yes, I always thought (and was raised that way) that the christian god is an allpowerfull omnipotent being. But from a lot of christian residents here I learned that god is nothing more than a a small powerless human looking man who can't do what he likes, is very limited in his actions and makes one error after the other ... really sad in what little box most of them put their god

Then what's this?

They are still my brothers and sisters, we all descend from Adam/Eve. Some are Yeshua's lost sheep. We are all carrying our own cross, whether we are aware of it or not.

Other Christians are my sisters/brothers in Christ.

They are still my brothers and sisters, we all descend from Adam/Eve.

So the distinction in your OP is a biological one, right?
Some are Yeshua's lost sheep.

What 'lost sheep'? Jesus is missing some sheep, is He?

John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
We are all carrying our own cross, whether we are aware of it or not.

Why then are we admonished to:

Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

I don't see this man replying, "Why? I'm already carrying it, whether I know it or not?"
Other Christians are my sisters/brothers in Christ.

Mine too -- :)

But first thing's first, eh?

Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
