  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello Guys!

I'm having a hard time with the truth behind masturbation. I'm really confused already & I don't know what is the truth from the lies. . Please help me. thanks.

Last Tuesday, my classmate and Bestfriend ate supper together after class. After the meal, we engaged in some "Boy Talk. My classmate, whose father was a medical doctor, asked me this question: " Prostate Cancer is rampant to men who do not have sex or touch. Most of the patients diagnosed with these illness are priests, because they rarely do this because it is wrong. How will you advise them to preserve their health and well-being by masturbating and releasing the "dirt" from their bodeis when they consider it as a sin?" I was shocked and dumbfounded. I don't knwo how to answer the question. My Christian conviction tells me that the act is wrong, but my future profession as a nurse dictates that this is but a normal process of the human body to remove the accumulated dirt inside. As the conversation went on, my best friend told me that he also does it, although not that often. H does it whenever "the need" arises to remove it. I told them the basis why it is wrong, butn I just can't convince them, because as nurses we have to promothe the optimum level of health of every individual. And if restricting the act will hinder in the healthy process of mastrubation, as the medical studies would say, it would jeopardize our goal. On the other hand, I don't know what to do because all these things are scrambling within me. I admit that I am currently struggling with masturbation. SEXTERS ( a group from the Foundation for Adolescent Development) advised me that the Church condemns the "excessive" mastrubation. You can do it provided you do not have lust and that you just wasnt to clean up your body. I also asked a carmelite priest-psychologist about this when I confessed to him. He just laughed and told me that it tis just normal, and that I should continue it to achieve normal development. If I won't do it, he said, I would turn into a "loco." My SD, Genrev are against the act, even my conscience rebels.

I am confused. I need you help bros., It's my crisis today. My friends, even my bestfreind are carefree about it, while I am striving to eradicate it from my system. My mind tells me that I am just making a problem out of something I shouldn't be troubled about.

Please help me. I need help. I don't know where to go.

Brethren in Christ, God give you Peace.

I am truly sorry, but that is the most ridiculous nonsense I have heard in a long time. Perhaps this "Doctor" got his degree online or something. Or perhaps he just needs a rationalization of his own.

Regardless, there is no need to purge your body of these fluids. Your body does that very well on it's own. Sperm and sperm are re-cycled constantly in men. There is no build up (though I know it may seem like that sometime, but it is more mental than physical) which must be "released."

There is a Doctor who is on EWTN quite a bit and he may be able to give a "second opinion" on this topic: http://www.drray.com/

God Bless,
P12

The simple fact of the matter is, almost all men develop prostate cancer at some point in their life. A majority die from other causes, but autopsies have revealed that there comes a certain age where the prostate is almost certain to be found to have undergone a cancerous transformation. Masturbation isn't going to prevent it. The reason that prostate cancer isn't more common is because it often hits at a late age and people usually die of other complications at that point.

why is this study legitamate, but the one linking breast cancer to abortion is always dismissed as nonsense?

Follow up studies. A study whose results are not repeatable is discarded while one with repeatable results are considered reliable.

please help. I'm really into clouds of doubt, even though I know its wrong. It seems that all of these things are conflicting in my mind.

There is an increased chance of prostate cancer, but the increased risk is minor and should not cause you to go against your conscience. Remember, professing to be a Christian was much more dangerous at one time yet no one would advocate that it would have been better for martyrs to have denied their faith to save their lives. An small increase of risk for a disease that will probably not kill you is nothing compared to death.

Tell him to tell his father that priests and Catholics in general are more concerned about the after life, and that he who worries more about his life will lose it.

I was searching for a way to say this and PeterPaul nails it exactly on the head.

Listen your body will get rid of that sperm at night hence the 'wet dream'. You know even if you got prostate cancer from not maturbating we have the sacrament of the sick! :) Masturbating is wrong, satan is the father of lies, he tried to convince you that your seed needs to be released but God already created a mechanism for that so don't be discouraged. I had a problem with it for awhile but then I came to this point and I can't stand it when I do it so pray and you will be good.

In Christ

Hey PeterPaul, I've got that red & white Grand Turino waiting in the driveway, ready to go!!

In all seriousness,
A. That "medical fact" is ridiculous. Sounds to me like a modernist excuse to prove that "you have to sin to be healthy"
B. Lets say hypothetically that it is true - Jesus said, "If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into eternal life with one eye than to be thrown into fiery Gehenna with two eyes."

That being said, if I die of prostate cancer because I refuse to sin, I do not think I will have a problem explaining that decision to God.
