  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."
2 Timothy 2:22-25

I think a lot of the arguments here would qualify as foolish and stupid arguments. It could also be called discussions. But when the discussions get nasty, then they can be called foolish and stupid arguments.

I thought to add below from one thought of as St John Chysostom and church father.

Ver. 23. “But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.”
Do you see how he everywhere draws him off from questions; not that he was not able to overthrow them; for he was well able. For had he not been able he would have said, Be diligent, that thou mayest be able to refute them; as when he says, “Give attendance to reading, for by so doing thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.” (1 Tim. iv. 13, 16.) But he knew that it was useless to enter at all into these disputes, that there will be no end of it, save contentions, enmities, insults, and reproaches. These “questions” therefore “avoid”; so that there are other questions, some relating to the Scriptures, some to other things.
Ver. 24. “And the servant of the Lord must not strive.”
Not even in questions ought he to strive, for the servant of the Lord must keep far from strife, since God is the God of peace, and what should the servant of the God of peace have to do with strife?

If you ever need knowledge of the bible, the works of the ones known as Early Church Fathers may be most beneficial.

At CCEL or Christian Classics Ethereal Library you may use the documents of the ones known as Early Church Fathers. At the website click on Home and click on Church Fathers.

Do you see the irony in both the verse and your comment?

Paul didn't write the pastorals.

I think there's nothing wrong with asking questions. How will we learn if we do not ask questions? When we argue and call each other names and get into quarrels, that is not good. Sometimes we must agree to disagree. Not everyone has the same opinion on the Bible, sometimes there is no right or wrong opinion. Everybody interprets the Bible differently, because we are all different, that is how god made us, he does not create human beings from a mold. Just because one group of Christians claim a certain interpretation of the bible is always right, does not mean they are always right and correct. Sometimes it seems whoever shouts and complains the loudest and rudest, whoever is the loudest and most obnoxious Christian demnding their view is correct is the one that people notice the most that everyone sees as the "correct" Christians.
