I was just wondering if anyone on the forums was a member of the SCA, Belegarth M.C.S., Amtgard, Dagorhir, or any other variation of Meideval Combat Reenactment. I'd noticed that there aren't that many devoted Christians who fight in my area, I'd just wanted to find out if that was the case everywhere else.

Better yet, does anyone even know about Foam Fighting?

aww, I thought this was going to be about LARPing

Well, Hey, it all depends on how much you want to put into your game persona. Most people just kind of write it off as pointless, but if you get the attitude going on at events, it can be pretty fun.

It's good to hear that people have been around the game before. Belegarth's still growing, but I think that it's got about 5000 fighters nationally. The official site's address is www.belegarth.com. Check it out, it's an awesome sport. Plus, it's a great opportunity to witness (for the Christian half of our viewing audience) to people who normally aren't around organized religion all that much.

"Foam Fighting," or on the grander scale, the sport of Medieval Combat Reenactment, is based around actual fighting with medieval weapons (normally, these weapons are made of safe materials, like foam, hence the name). Participants use medieval weapons (ie. swords, shields, spears, arrows, etc.) to maim, kill, and otherwise destroy the enemy fighters.

Some groups, like the SCA, are completely devoted to perfect historical accuracy, while others, like Amtgard, are very much based in fantasy, with semi-realistic rules regarding "Magic" (ie. throwing foam "Fireballs"). Most groups, like Dagorhir and Belegarth, M.C.S., however, are based entirely around the game of fighting, with the realism/fantasy aspects added in as secondary. The sport is very fast-paced, and everyone, including the physically handicapped, can play. (Some people are known to fight until they are 40+ years old.)

Hope that explains what the sport is for anyone who isn't familiar with it.
