  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why don’t people travel nicely? I fly out to visit my elderly mother about every 2 or 3 months and getting there from here is a 2 or 3 airline flight day. I look around at my fellow travelers on my flights and in the airports and I am appalled that their state of dress. Why are so many people wearing pajamas and flip flops? Why are so many wearing clothes that are 3 sizes too small or tight when they are horribly over weight and it looks awful? Why do people take off their flip flops or shoes and socks on the plain and put their feet up on the chair in front of them or the bulkhead?

I admit that for a long time I did not dress up to fly, but the worst I would be found in was new and dark jeans, full shoes and socks and a neat button down shirt. Now I am so disgusted at the start many people travel in I tend to fly only in a jacket/tie in hopes to shoe others how to dress well. What happened to dressing well? Why do so many people fly like slobs now?

We are told, "Judge not, lest ye also be judged
(by the measure by-which you are judging OTHERS)

You are not living 'their lives' / 'walking, in their shoes'
Why, do you pick-up on, and expose their differences / CHOICES
(perhaps, 'struggle')
Perhaps, they are 'Customers of Walmart' (going on holiday)

Ego, has the ability to suggest to one
of their perhaps having
'a measure' of SUPERIORITY
which, really isn't possible...
nor is it Christian to have and express such 'demeaning-statements'

IMHO

Actually I know what you mean. I see this not only on flights, but everywhere now-a-days. I think it's the new, modern way.

It's like I remember when I was young, it was fashionable at that time for men to have longer hair, kind of like a mop looking thing... remember? People my parent's age were horrified and thought it was just too unruly looking.

Times change (silly obvious statement). We're over 50, and it's at this time and this stage in life when we start seeing the 'world change' and it's no longer what we're used to. I'm noticing many other things these days too... lol. Guess I'm just aging. :/

And I think by me noticing it, or not liking it has nothing to do with my Christianity, or that's what imho I think.

So yep, I know what you mean.

Happy New Year! :)

I understand completely what you guys are saying and what's worse than seeing it in airports is seeing people dressed like that in church.
I'm not talking about visitors or people just wondering in off the street, but church members, or in most cases, their children, looking like they just rolled out of bed, got in the car, and came to church.
I know some don't have the means to buy nicer clothes, but anyone can make themselves look presentable in public with what they have; there is just no excuse for how some dress in public, knowing they could present themselves better with just a bit of effort. A person can't tell me that all they have in their wardrobe is pj's and fuzzy house slippers. Society has just become way too casual in appearance, speech, and behavior in my opinion.
Or maybe we are just getting old and crotchety. :D

I do not think that I am picking up on and exposing "differences". Considering that a person up in first class was ripped up jeans and a ripped up shirt, in flip flops, then removed his flip flops and pushed his dirty feet (assumed since I am sure he removed the flip flops to get through security and had to walk on the dirty airport floor like that through security) into the bulkhead while he watched a movie on his tablet. Unless he was a homeless man who found an airline ticket and the name happened to match his, and he also came across a nice iPad on the ground. I do not think it is off to expect people who do and should know better to act better. If you went to a nice restaurant and the table next to you had someone in skin tights that exposed their privates and they sat there picking their nose and would pass gas and yell "Ahh that feels good", you would not expect better behavior from him?

I never claimed to be superior, nor did I demean them while I was there. And considering I noted my issue in generalities here and never stated a persons name or description, in no way did I demean anyone, unless someone who does this things AND knows better happens to be reading this forums thread.

I do not believe it is unchristian to wonder why people can act in a poor manor when they should know better, and if you personally feel I did wrong by you with my post I am sorry that you feel that way. Consider that without knowing me personally, how I behave and what things I do and say in public, aren't you also demeaning me and being unchristian by claiming I am? We are all entitled to our opinions, you yours and mine mine. :)

I am laughing! I went to a church over Christmas that is not in my state (since I was out of state) and 2 rows in front of me was a family, mother, father, son, daughter and all were dressed well (tie/jacket, nice dresses) except the father, who was in a ripped sweatshirt and shorts and flip-flops! Nit was not like he did not know better. Yes, I suppose he was busy fixing the kitchen sink drain and at the last second decided to come to church, but come on. And I have seen someone in fuzzy slippers at church, thankfully only once though. Yes, that person could have been homeless with nice clean PJ like clothes and fuzzy slippers in the below freezing temps, but I doubt it.

And yes, I do see more of my parents and grandparents opinions on fashion and being neat now that I am in my 50's. ;) I hate to, but I am agreeing with them now.

It's funny when you see old films of baseball or football games from before the 1960's. All the men in the stands are wearing suit and tie, the ladies wearing dresses, just to watch a game. Nowadays you can wear no shirt and paint your body like a barbarian warrior and it's normal.
