In Mark 13:14 Jesus said;"But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not,(let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains."
This abomination of desolation has already been fulfilled in a literal sense in the place that it ought not, which is the holy place, or holy mount in Jerusalem. But I believe these natural events of the past hold a deeper spiritual meaning. Just as the instructions for the children of Zion was to flee from that earthly mount at Jerusalem, to the mountains.
The call made to God's people to come out of the sinful city is also shown in Revelation 18:4 where the voice from heaven says"Come out of her, my people, that you be not a partaker of her sins, and that you recieve not of her plagues." This sign is also shown in Zechariah 2:7 when the Lord told his people "Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon."
Zion in scripture is the Holy mountain of God, which by natural location was at Jerusalem. But we see in Galations 4:26 there is also a heavenly Jerusalem. So Jesus declared in Mark 13:14 that the place which was supposed to be a holy place, was not so holy by reason of her abominations. Which by the way, is in the likeness of many of the false religions and beliefs in the man-made church system these days.
But what did the Lord mean when he told his people to flee to the mountains? I believe this language given in scripture has a deeper spiritual meaning, as is shown in Revelation 6:16 when the people of the earth ask the mountains and the rocks to fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne.
In Micah 6:2 the Lord says;"Hear ye, O Mountains, the Lords controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth: for the Lord has a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel." In Ezekiel 6:3 Ezekiel is told to speak to the mountains of Israel. So could these mountains of Israel and foundations of the earth be the children of Israel?
I believe we are given a clue in Psalm 87:1 where it says;"His foundation is in the holy mountains. (meaning more than one) I believe we are given more insight into these foundations in the heavenly Jerusalem in Revelation 21:14. We read;"And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb."
I believe the 12 apostles were also given as a latter day sign of the 12 tribes of Israel. This same sign is also shown in Exodus 24:4 when after Moses had written all the words of the Lord, he rose up and built an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel."
This same sign is also shown in the 12 wells of water in Exodus 15:27, and also in the 12 manner of fruit in Revelation 22:2 from the tree of Life. This fruit is like the new wine that would flow out from these mountains,(Joel 3:18) and we are told that the leaves of the tree shall be for the healing of the nations.
And this 12 manner of fruit, and the leaves whose substance is in them is shown in Isaiah 6:13 as the tenth part, which was to return, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: the holy seed shall be the substance thereof."
So who are these pillars and foundations of the earth, these mountains that bring the new wine, and bare 12 manner of fruit in due season, and heal the nations with their leaves?
I believe they are much like the 12 apostles in their day.
They are seen in the 144,000 who stand on the mount Sion with the Lamb from each of the 12 tribes of Israel as seen in Revelation 14:1. They are the ones who have the Fathers name written in their foreheads. And like the new wine that is to flow from those mountains, they are to sing a new song.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:32;"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, you know that the summer is nigh:"
