Flaglady, I was browsing round town the other day and stumbled across some gold lame in the fabric shop. In church we only have the basic colours like silver, red, green, blue and black; so to find some gold it must be a God thing!
Personally to me it symbolises Royalty
what is your favourite colour or colours?

This is the list of colours from my website (and my book!) and includes the principle colours. I have a flags in purple and red lame which I love but actually my real favourites are red, purple and orange and yellow together. But principly, I have a bag of 14 flags (those colours marked *) which go to church with me every week and I use what seems appropriate for the song, the mood of the meeting but mostly what the Spirit tells me to use. Many's the time I've picked up a couple of flags at random only to find they suit the next song exactly!

WHITE* purity, holiness, righteousness, Bride of Christ

RED* blood of the Lamb, atonement

YELLOW* joy

ORANGE* fire (esp: of the Holy Spirit)

GOLD* glory of God, divinity

SILVER* redemption

ROYAL BLUE* symbol of heaven and authority, prophecy, spiritual or heavenly

LIGHT BLUE* Holy Spirit, the heavenlies

IRIDESCENT PINK overcoming power

PEARL symbol of God’s truth, purity

PURPLE, DEEP* royalty, Kingship, majesty, wealth

PURPLE, PALE penitence and sorrow, (Christ’s robe at the crucifixion

GREEN, EMERALD presence of the throne room of God

GREEN, LINCOLN healing, new life, growth, prosperity

GREEN, PALE the pale horse

GREEN, YELLOWISH death and disease

Also, though I love the colour effect of lame, I don't think you can beat the luscious swirls and rustles of a flag made from habutaie (polyester silk). I love doing a kind of reverse swoop with them so they make a huge "C" shape. Amazing!

But habutaie's not half as durable as the lame.

i love the flags and banners, i remember seeing a girl from england who used to wear the indian garments, and she would take her scarf ( i don't know the proper term) and dance with it. it was so profound. i have never seen anyone ever do that before.
i don't use flags but would eventually like to teach the children how to use them. at this point i want them to learn how to be worshippers, i don't want them to get caught up in the flags just for the sake of using them.
last year at a conference i took a flag/banner class, we did praise and worship to "Yes Lord" and it was awesome. i still remember the patterns.

I have a great routine to that. The very first one that the Holy Spirit gave me to a song I'd never heard before.

And I think you're very wise to get them focussed on the praise and worship first. After all it's the bedrock of arts in worship. Bit like trying to paint without a canvass.

So we had our nightly prayer meeting tonight and this track was played at the beginning. I had taken two medium flags with me because I didn't on Monday and regretted it, knowing that God had wanted me to do flags at the close of that meeting. Well, I don't presuppose that the invitation will automatically be extended again. You can't make those suppositions with God. You just have to wait and see what He will ask of you. So I just did flags on my own in a corner and tried to be inconspicuous!! (As if!)

But the track was played at the end of the meeting as well and this time, the 20 or so prayers fell back and made a circle which almost invited me to enter which I did and suddenly - oh my life - suddenly, the Holy Spirit just caught me up and I was bouncing and twirling and waving those flags like windmills! I just couldn't help it - I felt as if I was on wings and could have leapt over mountains! Not only that, but the twirling and spinning which should have made me really dizzy, didn't!

Given the I have an arthritic knee and a shoulder still recovering from a dislocation just before Christmas, this was a miracle. A miracle that this overweight, 65 year old with sore joints was suddenly dancing around like a whirling dervish!

Oh praise the Lord! He is sooooo good. I was able to keep that up for the duration of the song which happily was not that long! About 3½ minutes, I think. But it felt like ages. I felt like I could have gone on for ages. And my knee and my shoulder are not hurting one bit. (Well, not yet!)

Praise the Lord, for He is good.

yes, that is the song! i really enjoyed it. we had different color flags, i remember mine was red. it kept getting wrapped around the pole, even though i was holding it with my fingers the way they taught us. but it didn't matter, we praised the Lord anyway. i couldn't stop smiling!

I like to dance with flags, and have made flags that were not just colors, but are some kind of symbol....like my fire flag and "wings" flags---my two favorites to dance with. Pics here:http://zionfirefriends.com/index.php?showtopic=290

I am in a charismatic liturgical church, and the expression of flags is welcomed, and a part of our regular worship. I'm not up on the platform for every song, but treat the flag worship as a prophetic word...brought in a due season. Once a month, our pageantry team ministers and we often incorporate flags with our dance and banner choreographies. We have space limitations, but use our limited facility to the fullest we can with pennants and smaller flags. We try to involve children as well, to give them the experience of expressing their worship with some kind of worship extension, and have made flags appropriate to their stature.

Hiya, ZF! Great you could make it - wouldn't be complete without you!

Bithiah, I have a technique that prevents the flag getting wound around like that. Its succesful use all depends upon timing in that you have to do it often enough whilst there's only one or two turns around the pole. So it needs to be done at frequent intervals. In a fast-ish song, I do it almost every other upward swing. In a couple of songs, it's actually emphasised to be part of the routine. "My Jesus, My Saviour" is one example.

It goes like this: when you 'feel' or see the fabric getting wound, or are using a routine where you know it does, the next time you do a big sweep, as you take the flag in the second half of the upward part of the move, everso slightly release your grip on the pole. This lets the fabric pull on the pole, the pole spins within your hand and the flag is magically unwound!

It needs practice and it also needs a big sweep to work well. Don't worry, the flag won't fly off into outer space! I have done routines where I'm barely holding the flag at all. Actually - and I supppose it has something to do with momentum, centrifugal force, Holy Spirit (or all of the above!)- but the flag won't seperate from your hand for the second or so that you release your grip.

Another tip - sometimes I've notice that when people are describing circles with their flag, they don't make the circle complete. IOW, they start the reverse of the manoeuvre before the forward is finished, the fabric doesn't have time to get out of the way before the pole starts coming back and gets hooked up on the pole.

Just a couple of ideas.

Jo, I know what you mean.. I'll be feeling sore & tired.. but then the music starts and my feet start tapping.. Before I know it, my flags are waving.. & I'm dancing.. an all thought of being tired or sore just leaves.. and the Holy Spirit has the use of my body..

Our (MikeJ is my hubby) church is bi-lingual - English/Spanish.. our pastors Puerto Rican... Worship is "extravagant" Thank you, Lord..

God is so good.. and so worthy of all our praise.. Alleluia!
