Florida mom, 34, is charged with child abuse after showing up to her daughter's middle school wearing a BOXING GLOVE to fight a 12-year-old girl
Edith Riddle, 34, was arrested on the child abuse charge after the attack at Dupont Middle School in Jacksonville on March 18.
Cellphone footage allegedly shows Riddle repeatedly punching the child lying on the ground. The video also shows an adult male hold a pair of boxing gloves.
Police were alerted to the incident after a school safety officer heard a 'frantic' announcement from a teacher over the school's radio system about a fight outside the cafeteria. Police said Riddle's daughter walked out of her way through the cafeteria to engage the victim in a fight.
Witnesses told police that Riddle's daughter initially pushed the victim to the ground and hit her. Riddle then allegedly also began punching the victim who was lying on the ground. One witness told investigators Riddle had a boxing glove attached to her hand
Riddle allegedly told police the boxing glove was glued to her wrist and she couldn't remove it. The student, who suffered abrasions to her knees and forearms in the fight, was taken to hospital by her parents for a follow-up evaluation.
The victim's parent told police they wanted to pursue criminal charges. Riddle was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse with personal/special weapon.
