  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If a well respected woman, backed by a major party, ran for President (this is for the US folks, by the way, although everyone feel free to chime in) would you choose to vote for her or not vote for her based on gender? Why or why not?

Do you think a woman should not be President? If so, what is your reasoning?

Although I would LOVE to see both parties run women or minorities as their candidates in the next presidential election, ultimately a person's gender or race would have absolutely no effect on whether or not I would vote for them. I would gladly support a woman whose stance on issues and ideology fit relatively closely with my own, and I find it incredibly sad that our Congress has so few women and minorities among its members.

Well, if all things were equal between two candidates and one were a male while the other were a female, I'd go w/ the male. This is only because I believe men were more intended by God for leadership than women. Since each candidate's platforms in most elections will most likely not be even close to equal to their opponents, however, for all practical purposes a candidate's gender is irrelevant to me.

To me, gender doesn't matter. If the person has the emotional strength and integrity as well as the intelligence and experience it takes to lead a country, I quite frankly don't care whether their dominant hormone is estrogen or testostorone (or which "organs" they have).

I'd vote for the one with the morals/ values that best match my own along with excellent leadership skills... If Dr. Condoleezza Rice (nat'l security advisor) ran in 08 I *think* (too early and don't know opponant) i'd vote for her.

I'll doubtless draw flames, but one must say what they believe. This is not meant to be inflammatory - I am simply very traditional.

In my emotions I'm of mixed feelings. Condaleeza Rice is an absolutely awesome national security advisor, and I was very impressed by Maggie Thatcher during her work. I know that Deborah was appointed by God when the men were not stepping up to the plate. However, knowing my mom and her moods I'd be concerned if she were to become president.

I really would like to see the men to continue to step up to the plate. My principles based on scripture believe that they have the responsibility to lead and lead well. There is the creation mandate (Gen 3:16), and Isaiah in prophecy talks about the women and children ruling a country (below). If a godly woman were the choice in a major party above an immoral man, though, I would quite possibly vote for her, though I might vote for a minor party. It would be a struggle of conscience.

I know that most people differ, and many women put men to shame by their capabilities, but this is what I am conscience bound to.

Isaiah 3:
--------
4 "I will give children to be their princes,
And babes shall rule over them.
5 The people will be oppressed,
Every one by another and every one by his neighbor;
The child will be insolent toward the elder,
And the base toward the honorable."
....
12 As for My people, children are their oppressors,
And women rule over them.
O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err,
And destroy the way of your paths."

Pax.

Are you sure that verse is taken in context?

What I've often heard is that women are too emotional to be President. Well, if we had an emotionless stoic in office, would we ever do anything to make a difference? I think not. Not all women have irrational mood swings. I've seen more men in my family have those type of mood swings than women in my family. I also know many men with hot tempers who let their emotions rule their head when reacting to a crisis situation, whereas I know many women who are calm during a crisis and handle it well. If women were not meant to be leaders in some capacities then we would not be raising children. The men would be handling that for the most part as well. I could go on and on. My point is, vote for me in 2020 :)

If she were a Christian, I would not vote for her unless she had no family to care for. A position such as the Presidency would undoubtedly take her away from her family, which is the antithesis of the Biblical woman found in Titus 2 and Proverbs 31. If she was not a believer, then I still would not vote for her unless she was uber-rational, post-menopausal, and had no family to take care of.

It would not really matter to me if they were female, but I don't expect to see one anytime soon.

Really, the only two women I can think of that are *really* in a position to even consider running for President are Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Dole and there's no way I'm voting for either of them. I guess a few other female Senators and/or Governors might be in a position to, but they're not anyone I'm familiar with.

Your viewpoint, to be honest, really disturbs me. The fact that you're a woman and you still fall for the 'women are too irrational' line is, to me, mind-blowing.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Just because someone is not as emotional as another does not make them careless or apathetic. I tend not to be that emotional of a guy or think too highly of many emotions in general, but I still think I'm a pretty caring guy. Yea me.

Unfortunately I will have long since taken over the world by then. :D You can be the president of my puppet state though!
