I have a friend I've been talking to about some things I've been struggling with. She tells me that I have to find my worth in God. I know this may make me sound ignorant but I don't get that. I don't understand how to do that. How do you find your worth in God? Why is it important? My friend who is also an adult mentor says that the only way to get through the rest of my stuff is to work on this. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Perhaps your friend means understanding the gifts God has bestowed on you and leveraging them to His greater glory. All our actions should be tested by the simple question: "Does this bring glory to God?" After all we were created, yes, our very purpose is to glorify God.

Find your worth in God, huh? This is something that I know I've struggled a lot with. This involves finding who you are and what your gifts are. Simply, finding your worth in God is realizing His eternal love for you, discovering the gifts God has given to you out of that love, and deciding how you can best use those gifts.

What are you good at? Are you a good mediator? A musician? Good with organization? Really, it could be anything lol

She told me while we had been discussing this that my spiritual gifts are service, and mercy. She said theres more but those are my most dominant. I love helping people out. Being a servant I guess. It makes me feel good to help other people. As for mercy, I've had to forgive a lot of people in the past and I have had many choices of I guess getting "pay back" but I never have. I want to see people saved no matter what they've done to me.

I find it hard to believe that God specifically did everything He's done for me. Cuz the way I see it He did it for everyone. Not just me. Im nothing special.

the fact that you realize you're nothing special should further your appreciation for what God HAS done specifically for you.

check out Malachi 1:1-5

God's response is actually a bit odd to Judah's question. but think of it this way. couldn't God have just as easily and justly dealt with Esau in the same way he dealt with Jacob? didn't Esau have just as much claim to the God's blessing as Jacob did? (which none had a claim to on their own merit) Esau and Jacob were brothers, equal, twins. if either of them could be said to be more worthy of God's blessing, it was Esau.

but God chose to justly deal with Esau (and Edom, the nation from him) harsly. God chose to destroy his country, and devastate his people, which BOTH Esau and Jacob deserved. but instead God preserved Jacob's people, gave them the land of Israel, gave them the promises, the oracles of the Messiah, his presence, made them a holy nation, when what Israel really deserved was punishment and destruction.

God loves everybody in general, in the fact that the sun comes up everyday. in the fact that as soon as we sin, we aren't immediately condemned to Hell. in the fact that we all can enjoy reflections of God's glory in our time on earth.

but you must realize that there is a very special, distinct love for the people of God. he chooses to deal with us differently. he rears us to live righteously, he blesses us and provides for us (not promoting health & wealth tho), he gives us joy, he places people in our lives, he does all things for the good of those who love him, so that we may in turn glorify Him.

his love for believers is very special, and very specific. we are the bride of Christ, precious to Him. you're special MERELY in the fact that God chose you, indiscriminately, ONLY by the merit of Christ.

God has put everyone here for a reason: to glorify Him. 'Finding your worth in God' means that you must discover the gifts God has given you and use them to glorify Him. This may also include bringing others to Christ, supporting others in their faith or simply leading the choir at your church.

(This is my interpretation, hence it is open to other views.)

Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're the only you
No one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see
It's up to you to change your life and my life's up to me
The problems that you suffer from are problems that you make
The [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] we have to climb through is the [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] we choose to take
If you don't like the life you live, change it now it's yours
Nothing has effects if you don't recognise the cause
If the programme's not the one you want, get up, turn off the set
It's only you that can decide what life you're gonna get
If you don't like religion you can be the antichrist
If your tired of politics you can be an anarchist
But no one ever changed the church by pulling down a steeple
And you'll never change the system by bombing number ten
Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people
You may send them into hiding, but they'll be back again
If you don't like the rules they make, refuse to play their game
If you don't want to be a number, don't give them your name
If you don't want to be caught out, refuse to hear their question
Silence is a virtue, use it for your own protection
They'll try to make you play their game, refuse to show your face
If you don't want to be beaten down, refuse to join their race
Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're they only you

Personally I know what my worth is to God and he draws me forward to make the right decisions pleasing to him. You feel the road open up and he leads. That's what I feel finding my worth in God means. It means not always doing what you want or what the crowd wants. It means taking a bit of a step out of materialism.
