We do not receive government aid.

A loaded question so I'll address the source-- it is possible to raise a large family without depending on government aid if you live wisely: Debt free and without credit cards. We buy our cars straight out, no loans with interest and monthly payments on something continually depreciating in value.

The majority of Americans have very few children but are deeply in debt and paying outrageous amounts for their "stuff" that they don't really need. I would much rather be surrounded by people that actually matter to me. So maybe I don't have a flat screen TV. I am okay with that.

We live within our means and IMO you should be more worried about the people who are not doing so.

Leanna,

It is NOT a loaded question. I'm simply curious as to current trends and statistics (I'm a graduate of Psychology & Education) and when I have a question, I ask it.

Our family was a family of 4 children, 2 foster children, and 1 grand-daughter (raised in our home). We each had our own rooms, and lived rather nicely. My father was the sole provider and my mother raised all of us as SAHM.

I too plan on having more than one child (although, I do believe in birth control) and adopting. SO and I feel strongly that we would like each of our children have their own rooms, a private education, and the ability to travel. That being said, we feel we can financially support (in an adequate manner) 5 children. Will we have 1? Maybe. Will we have 5? Maybe. Will we have more than five? Maybe.

No need to get defensive, it was a simple question. Not everyone is out to "get you" :)

It sounds like we have very similar views then, simply in your last post. There have been indications on this board that larger families are a burden on tax payers. This can be a "rough crowd." From what I've seen there is no tendency for a larger family to be more likely dependent on the government. It is equally as likely for a smaller family. And even just as alarming to me is the rampant use of debt to get what a person wants before they can realistically afford it. That's how a person goes bankrupt or at least stays in bondage to someone else. That happens just as often with a family with one child.

no, we don't rely on governent aid. The only aid we get is through family tax rebates - which every family is entitled to. We live on one wage and I stay home.

And though we are quiverful the Lord has not given us lots of children (only 2 so far) - so quiverful does not automatically equal large family.

no Govt aid here. i am a stay at home mom and homeschooling. i have only 3 kids so far but only God knows if there are more in store. We can afford many more children without govt help. i agree with all the above. just last year we got ourselves out of credit card debt and are now working on paying off our car and have no intention of evver having another car payment in our life. We have a plan to have our house paid off in less than 10 yrs as well. We have all our needs plus some wants. Its easier to live on one income than the "world" wants us to think. The debt and credit cards and electronics purchases are ruining people. Also...your kids DONT HAVE TO be involved with every sport and every group out there. most kids nowadays are involved in TOO much..and it costs MONEy. my 2 cents.
