We have a joint checking and savings account. For us having seperate accounts just doesn't make sense. We don't have a lot of money to begin with so neither of us spend much on ourselves. And any money we do spend we make sure the other one knows, and if it's a fairly big purchase we make sure to talk about it before hand. I'm definitely in charge of the finances (paying the bills, putting money into savings, etc.) We'd possibly go broke if DH did it!

I'm just going to reliven this topic as it's such a good one.

We've talked about it, and haven't come to a "conclusive" decision. Like sascha we are having a joint and also two seperate spending accounts.. we'll put approx $10 in a week, and can spend that on what we want, it also makes it easier to get suprise pressies.

However, we also have thought about having "TWO" other accounts on top of that. One would be a "Savings" account, saving for particualr things, whereas the other would be savings for something like a house deposit, as we plan to aquire more than one.

5 accounts, it seems drastic, but i think we'll see what happen, account fee's could change that idea.
