  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this yet. Anyone picked it up yet? I ordered it last night on a glowing recommendation by one of my friends. I'm looking forward to it.

And by the way, if we could keep this thread free of console and series wars. This thread is intended to discuss FF XII and possibly compare it to other games in the series, not to argue whether PS2 or XBox is better or if FF or Halo is better. Thanks!

I got it on Tuesday. So far it's pretty good. The fighting system definitely takes a bit of getting used to, but it's actually a lot like FFXI (the online one). I haven't gotten into the gambit system yet, but from what I read it sounds cool. Graphics are great, as always, but the absence of the series traditional composer, Nobuo Uematsu, is definitely felt. That's not to say that the music is bad, but Nobuo's work is missed.

That having been said, I'm only two hours into it (stupid working and sleeping taking up my time) but I'm enjoying it so far.

The gambit system is a bit of a pain but i just got to use it so i am still trying learn it it looks like it will be cool though

I ordered the game a few days ago and waiting for it to come in...I ordered the collector's edition. I cant wait for it to come in! I love FF10 and 10-2. I never played FF11 cause i cant get into online games...lol...I wish they would have had FF11 on PS2, but oh well...I got the strategy guide as well...I hope it is as much fun as 10 and 10-2. My brother got his game already and I think he started playing it...ill have to ask him how he likes it...

They do have FF XI for the PS2, it comes with the hard drive. And personally, I hope that XII is significantly better than X-2, since I will be severely disappointed if matching X-2 is the loftiest thing it can accomplish. Matching X I'd be OK with though. Matching or beating IX would make me the happiest man alive.

my brother said something about having to pay a monthly fee to get the most of out FF11 on PS2 is that true? I just thought it was kind of weird to let us get the most out of other games, and not FF11...

FF XI is an MMORPG, and, like most MMORPGs, require a monthly fee to play. That's not just the PS2 version, it's all of them.

He asked that this thread not be turned into a debate of which installment people thought was the best (series war).
I think that there's a good chance that WinduDe had VII mized up wtih XII and honestly thought we were discussing 7....

just my thoughts

All right, I hate to admit it, but I have to take back the comments I made before playing the game. Before I said that I didn't think the battle system was the best move and they should have stuck with turn-based. Now I like turn-based, and I do kind of miss it, but my concern was there would be no more strategy and it would just be button mashing. Instead, they've just transposed the strategy over to the Gambit system (which I am enjoying very much) to get your party members to behave in the most helpful way. This game has surpassed all my expectations so far, and if the plot is as good as the rest of the game has been, it may surpass IX as my favorite Final Fantasy (and those of you that know me know that's quite a feat considering how much I love IX).

I'm 23 hours into it. It sucks away valuable time from grad school. It's a great addition to the series and a welcome breath of fresh air.

*whistles* 23 hours, that's impressive. I think I'm only about 10 or 12 hours in. But I agree, so far, it's a great addition to the series.
