  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

my friend and I were going over an overview of the history of the church, and he said:
"but there are a couple of things to note at this time. at the council of ephesus in 431 or so it was declared that no change could be made onto the creed"

Is this true? What defense would one have for that? :o

I remember this when I was doing research on my thesis. From my understanding, the brunt of the argument that the representatives of the East made against the filoque at the Council of Florence was that it was improper by canon law for anything to be added to the Creed. Both sides came to agreement that it wasn't heretical at all, as long as translations were made carefully.

I haven't seen a Catholic Church response to this issue.

I'd have to see exactly what was said by the Council.

The Filoque was added to combat major heresy, which is always why doctrine is further developed.
