  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We were just talking about movie posters the other day at Emmas. I agree, as a collector of movie posters the quality has declined seriously in the last decade. Vertigo is a great example of a quality one, actualy I was looking through a Hitchcock book I have the other night and all of his movie posters are included in the back along with cast ect. and all of his are great posters. Vertigo and Rear Window being my favorites.

Posters used to be an image that stuck with you long after the movie had come on and gone, but today I see a poster for something like Charlies Angels 2 and I think, "oh wow, 3 half dressed women, looks alot like Charlies Angels 1". The movie industry as a whole has taken a serious dive for the worst lately. It, like just about everything is concerned about how many 100's of Millions it's going to pull in on opening weekend, and if they should offer Brad Pitt 25 Million instead of 20, that it's lost the true meaning of films. People want to be entertained or moved, I can't say I've been effected either way for the majority of the films I've seen as of late.

Now I've stumbled completely off point, but yes you are not alone on this topic.

Couldn't agree more! Seems that 90% of the films that come out today are unnecessary sequels, remakes, or novelty/cliched films. I'm finding myself more and more interested in independent films.

the thing is - independent films are horrible. they're indies for a reason and very justified in their failures. there's a disproportionate number of indies to mainstream films and that's cos they're cheaper. more often than not, cheap is much worse and expensive to moderately priced films. it's those moderately produced films that hold the true gems you're looking for.

Have you ever seen A Fistful of Dollars? I believe the company that made it spend $250,000 total on that film. It is a great movie, and I love the
joke at the end. :p

I love the old movie posters that look like paintings. The just feel more genuine somehow. It's hard to put into words.

Yeah but $250,000 then is about the same as 80 million by todays standards. Man I love that everytime I run into you you're talking about those films, I love those movies but I imagine you could talk for hours about them. Not to say that's bad, uber cool if you will.

And yes the old posters that look like paintings are always cool, Empire Strikes Back gets my top award for that. ;)

That heart-rending tale of the noble savage ended, in normal cinemas, with hero Charles Bronson lying dead for the closing credits

Where I saw it, with no break @ all, up popped an advert for the local funeral directors, making the whole film seem part of the ad

Wonder why I was the only 1 who saw the joke & roared laughing?

Oh well..

Back to the padded cell..

is that with or without inflaction? because if you knock off a few decades and that's a lot of money for anything.
