• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

What it means is they/we don't get into the deepest level of sleep - the restorative part. That's the part of sleep where the body does most of it's repairing.

I know I dream alot... always did, not sure if it has anything to do with the Fibro. I also wake up often during sleep - that is Fibro related.

I had a sleep study done and the doctor said my sleep architecture was poor consistent with FM. The sleep study said that night anyway I had 0 REM sleep, although I know I do dream at night. I know I don't sleep well at night, either.

I have heard that sufferers with this condition have a high level of brain activity during sleep, so does this lead to having more dreams?

Actually, the increased brain activity is what keeps us from attaining REM sleep, which is when you dream the most. You can still dream without getting into the deep REM sleep, but that increased brain activity is what prevents us from getting the restorative sleep we need to heal our bodies. Now, there is debate about whether the lack of REM sleep increases our pain, or if the increase in pain causes the lack of REM sleep, but they are definitely connected.
Fibromyalgia sucks. :(

I totally agree! Fibro sucks

Heh. It's my favorite saying these days. There's this website, butyoudontlooksick dot com, that has some great merchandise - bags, t-shirts, mugs, etc., that say things like Fibromyalgia sucks, Lupus sucks, CFS sucks. They make me smile. It's a great site to check out, too - The woman who started it has Lupus, and she came up with a great way to explain how those of us with chronic illnesses feel - It's called The Spoon Theory. You'll find it as a link on the right-hand side of their home page.
I highly recommend taking a look. It also has some great ideas/products for us that make things like keeping the house, running errands and visiting the doctor much less strenuous and stressful.

what is this Costrochondis?

Its inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs connect to the breast bone. It feels like your having a heart attack, the pain is severe and mine bores into my back. You can get Costochrondritis from several different causes, but when connected to FM can become chronic. If associated with FM they think it may be related to the trigger points in the chest.
