  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Here is a report from the New York Times that lists some polls and opinions from some experts that say that the lockdowns have actually benefitted marriage relationships (the polls are summed up here).

I know we all have anecdotal evidence to suggest otherwise because the lockdowns couldn't have helped EVERY marriage, but what do you think about what the Times article says?

Article seems to be paywalled, but I would imagine that while divorce rates have dropped, it's not necessarily because marriages have improved. We know, for example, that DV rates have increased significantly.

Perhaps it is harder to organise a separation and/or divorce in lockdown?

That article isn't paywalled for me and I don't have a subscription or anything. Try opening it with an incognito browser.

There are couples, for example who participated in that poll, who said that they were considering divorce before the lockdowns but aren't now. Less than half are considering it who were. It appears that for some marriages, being together and having to depend on each other helped them make progress with their issues and raised the value that each feel and see in each other. It seems there are some positives for marriage and Christians should be glad about that.

I think it all depends upon how strong the marriage is and what issues are involved.

I for one, don't mind the lockdown at all. Hubby and I made the best of it, doing home projects, finding new recipes, playing board games, taking care of our new niece, preserving food, having fun cookouts with just family, and stuff like that.

Plus I got an airfryer out of the deal, hahahahaha!!

It can be a challenge. But with a solid marriage, being best friends, having fun together and enough separate interests to keep from killing each other, it's doable.

I'm sad for those who find it so difficult.

All good things

Id say the numbers are down due to availability of processing the divorce and all that is involved.

I was essential so I was never really locked down at all. I went to work, went home spent time with my wife.

So 2020 was about the same as 2019, the only real difference was fewer trips to shop in person at grocery stores, pet stores for walking our cat, tea shops etc.

As far as being "forced" to spend all my free time with my wife.... its what I wanted to do anyway and even now... sign me up for more of that.... but much less of what 2020 had to offer in general
